2005 VQ35DE Engine Year interchange?

Good Day to you all. I have a 2005 Maxima, It currently has 167k and the transmission just went out. I have decided to go ahead and replace both with lower mileage components.

My Question. The VQ35DE is what I am looking for. My Car 4th digit Vin is B. Can I replace with a newer engine or do I need to stick to the year range of 2004-2006? I see newer engines with the same VIN B code. I would like to replace with a 2008-2012 motor. Is this possible or are there big changes in the block?

Thank you all for your time. I figured this would be the best way to get the best answer. My Local dealer is not the most honest i feel.

You can do pretty much anything. The real question is the amount of money you want to put into it. You could put a hemi in there if you have enough money. Start with what you are willing to spend and then go from there. If you want a one for one swap, then do just that and don't play with all the guess work that comes with changing things. All motors have a number on them that can be looked up by the parts department to let you know compatibility. I would stay far away from CVT myself, so that would limit my options from what I remember. However if I have to change my engine and transmission, I am going extreme and shooting for a turbo all wheel option from a volvo or similar. I haven't gotten there so the research has yet to be done. I have seen crazy swaps in many different cars so the possibilities are pretty much your imagination and depth of pockets. Good luck hope this helped.
