Been thinking - Surprising the competition with a CVT?
Been thinking - Surprising the competition with a CVT?
EDITED: Okay that was way too complicated. What I meant to say is, impossible / highly recommended to leave CVT VQ35DE Maxima N/A. Surely the CVT isn't that weak right? What is the max power it could handle and what is the best (estimate) power output you could theoritcally get without forced induction or charger?
New Zealand 2007 Nissan Maxima - VQ35DE, CVT, full cat back system (+10kw), lowered, spings
Done 180,000kms so far and is driving like the day I bought it. Always maintained and usually driven every day. I love how much torque the VQ has in general but with the CVT it really is something else. Curvey hilly roads are quite fun, until you start watching the petrol guage. Oh and the exhaust brand is unknown as the NZ did a Spec-R version and changed at factory but after research, it's possibly a Remus or Borla, sounds pretty damn amazing.
Anyway so, have you ever seen a tuned car with CVT?!? Wouldn't the added torque from VQ, CVT and Supercharger make this thing like.... insane?
How would the CVT handle it? It feels to me at the moment that the CVT almost needs to be opened up every so often, cruising round town below 1.6k you almost begin to feel it struggling, maybe it would be alot happier with more, oomf?
Would be pretty damn unique too, already keep up with V8s as is
Perhaps forget this in general and start with other parts, 350Z headers etc?
Would also be interested to know what makes the later model VQ35's produce more power from stock than older.
One final question while I'm here - CVT flush is coming up and my trusted place said they could do for $130 but they don't use N2 Nissan fluid. Matter? or trans fluid is trans fluid.
Thanks

Oh and if anyone is interested at all.... more info on the random Spec-R branded Maxima that only NZ seems to have:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/road...-good-old-days (literally the only info I found on the entire internet, hence why im not certain about the exhaust brand)
NZ/Aus seem to have quite a different car/driving scene compared to the US. They really like chucking parts onto the standard N/A V6/V8's - I only just recently saw a new 2017 Maxima that was Spec-R and it looked amazing. Same upgraded exhaust, huge rims, not over the top body kit etc. I would love to find some more information on the changes made to this model.
