Won’t shift out of park and key not coming out
hey alll,
2004 maxima se! so so basically it first happened leaving my buddies house about 2 weeks ago. I can’t shift my car out of park without using shift lock button. And then when I do put it in park with the shift lock button my key does not want to come out of the ignition no matter what I do with the steering wheel or even pressing shift lock while trying to remove the key. Nothing works. I’m stumped and done plenty of research and can’t seem to find an answer. No fuses are blown I checked them all. Brake switch is good cause the brake lights work, Any ideas of what it may be anyone ??

Come on guys I know you’re out there ....
Brake lock solenoid?
shift lock control module?
its just hard to put a thumb on it ! There is multiple posts with this same exact problem but it seems they are all dead ends as nobody comes up with an exact conclusion on what fixed their problems, it’s really annoying having to leave the key in the ignition, well anyway right now my radiator is tore out and waiting for my replacement to come because it cracked at the top near the radiator crack (cheap plastic and original rad)
car has 125K miles on it , just did tranny fluid change, coolant change (two weeks and of course the rad bursts open like a ballon lol), and oil change with a puralator filter. Besides this the whole not shifting thing not being able to turn key all the way to the left and remove key from ignition thing is the only thing wrong with the car, could really use some help and good advice as I know it is out there from you smart people on this website. I lurked this site for awhile until I finally registered and decided to start a thread because of this problem.

Yeah my key will not turn all the way to the left and it won’t allow me to take the key out, I can only assume that the shifting problem and key problem are completely related or at least I hope so !

I get confused with all the components , there is interlock solenoid , shift lock module, tranny interlock switch what is that exactly?
i know it’s not the brake switch cause my brake lights all work and I have checked all fuses as well. There is another switch above the brake switch that also disengages when you depress the pedal and I’m unsure of what that is.
