Maxima06(112k) - Jerks when putting in reverse only after driving 10-15 mins
I am seeing an issue since last week. After driving about 10-15 mins , when I park the car and bring to R it jerks. I consistently see this jerk when shifting from P to R and R to P. Also I noticed slight jerk when driving after stopping at signal. I visited total 4 mechanic to get the diagnostics. Two of them said issue with transmission & quoted 1800 to rebuild. The other two said that it's just mounts & asked about 500~600 to change the mounts. I can see that mounts are not that great and engine is moving a slight. However I dont see any issue when I first use car for like 5-10 mins. So I want to make sure that it's not Tranny before I fix the mounts.
Let me know if you have faced this issue & any suggestions further...

The two most notorious things this symptom could be is either your transmission's valve body, or your cam-shaft sensors. Both have happened to me, but the hard shifts between D and R were significantly worse when I had bad Cam Sensors. Those you can easily do yourself, no experience needed and they are cheap as hell. The Valve Body is expensive. Not something you can do unless you are a seasoned mechanic. Get a level 10 Valve body. It fixed my issues before it ruined my transmission. However, if your VB is starting to die, you should also be experiencing slam shifts in between gears while driving.

First concern about the "Just mounts" quote, is that the car doesn't exhibit these problems right away. Leads me to believe the trans fluid heats up, and then the problem surfaces. Not saying for sure a rebuilt is your option, but I tell ya, for $1800, if they give you 12 month 12,000 warrantee that's a steal compared to conventional transmission. They may opt to replace the mounts for you, at just the cost of the mounts, since everything has to come out anyway. What's a mount cost, about $60 each?

It is extremely rare for a person to have to rebuild a transmission on a Maxima unless they are just clueless and destroy the car themselves. The problem with the maxima's transmission is the valve body. It's just a part of transmission that was defective from the start. Even if you rebuild your transmission if you just replace everything with oem parts you will have another failure in 20-120k miles. The Valve body is defective. not the whole transmission. Do not waste your money, Level 10 has sold tens of thousands of their rebuilt valve bodies that fix and prevent transmission failure. Going in blind and paying someone to rebuild a transmission is a stupid waste of money. You could just need a $20 bank 2 cam sensor.
