Headlights dilemma

Hello everybody,

I have an unusual problem with my headlights. I bought 2004 Maxima with messy headlights wiring. I got a replacement headlight assembly to find to my surprise that the replacement lights does not fit. Then I found that my car has headlight from 2007-2008 models which changes the look after facelift of the car. I re-checked my VIN number just to confirm that my Maxima is 2004. Then I recalled that I read an ad for Maxima for sale where the seller advertised that he changed headlights and hood on his 2005 Maxima to 2007-2008 model. Did somebody have knowledge on the issue? My headlights don't work at all and I have messed up harness and not OEM headlights. What are the differences in wiring and connectors between 2004-2006 and 2007-2008 models. Is there anything else I need to know to make the lights work?

Are they still halogens or did they get converted to hid?

This is a very good question. First I have not idea which lights were originally. The current version is Eagle Eye DS630-B001L which is HID by design, however they were retrofited with aftermarket HID ballast and bulb. The ballast was not properly grounded and burned out. My plan is to get new headlights assemblies and install LED lights inside. I would like to know is there a difference in wiring schematics of 2004 and 2007 models. Is there any source to get schematics for Maxima?

On 04-08 all the wiring and everything is the same up until you get to the electrical connector that plugs into the headlight. If hid, then the connector plugs directly into the ballast that is integrated into the lamp assembly. I guess someone clipped the original electrical connector and wired them to an aftermarket ballast. The halogen lightbulb is a 9012, the hid bulb is a d2s. There were a few sites that had schematics, but they required registration

Thank you very much for this information - now I know what to do. Did you have any experience using LED bulbs replacement kit?

I have led fog lights from LASFIT on both my Nissans, they were inexpensive and are incredibly bright. I've never used them as headlights, would have to do some research.

Hi NCoodek,

I got some doubts about wiring of 2004 and 2007. HID headlights have only one bulb while halogen has two (long and short beam) so it has to be two thick wires for halogen version.

Does somebody know where I could get diagram for lights harness?

Try the Nissan FSM. Here are links to the headlight sections for the 2 cars.

2004 start on page 6 - http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/2004/LT.pdf

2007 start on page 5 - http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/2007/LT.pdf

the schematics are a couple of pages down.

Thank you Dennis, great information!!! That will probably explain why my 2007 headlight does not work on my 2004 maxima.

Does somebody have experience on changing 2004 style to 2007 one?
