Oil dipstick smells like exhaust
Hi, not sure if am in the right section to post this, hope so... My car it's a 2012 Nissan Teana (J32) here in Thailand, which it's comparable to the 6th gen Maxima in US market, correct me if am wrong! However for this market Teana comes with VQ25DE engine... it's anybody experienced a strong smell of exhaust in the engine oil? more evident if we smell the dipstick. Car got quiet hi mileage, 285k km but always been treated super well, I am not sure if this it's just a recent problem or not, car runs fine and got no issue for now, does not burn oil at all and also gas consumption it's as usual. Only thing I could say is that since the last 100k km the engine oil it tends to get darker too soon... I used always only synthetic 5w30 earlier and 5w40 lately changing oil and filter every 5/6k km... let say after the first 2k km the oil start to get dark and at 6k...its almost black! However, crankcase and internals are shiny clean with no sludge at all... just wondering of this exhaust smell on the dipstick...something serious or...
Thanks to all for attention...good luck!!

If you've never replaced the PCV valve, I have a feeling you'd get this kind of smell. If it's clogged you're not getting the engine vapors out of the valve cover...may have odd pressure buildups in there too...it's a cheap part, but if I recall it's not easy to get to. Gotta remove the cowl area for best access (plastic parts between windshield and hood). Again, I'm not 100% it has been a while since I replaced that part, don't have the 6th gen anymore.
