04 coolant bubbling out of reservoir ????

Hey Yall, Recently purchased a 2004 Nissan maxima v6, i turned off my car after driving to gets some food I heard a rumbling noise beneath the hood. so I popped it and I see the coolant spewing out of the overflow. I pinched the little rubber hosing that runs from the radiator to the reservoir and it immediately stopped if that's any clue to anything, but as soon as a let it go it started bubbling out again and there was noticeable steam coming out of the reservoir also. So my thoughts are a few things, the thermostat or the radiator itself. Some other info also the car had no temperature rise showing on the dash and the only reason I knew something was wrong is because I heard the bubbling sound coming from beneath the hood and the cooling leaking out above the passenger tire. please any insight on the problem would help I'm no mechanic at all and id like to have an idea of what the problem may be $$$. thank yall .

Air inside the coolant system might cause an odd expansion like this, Sometimes these systems need to be burped. And as stated a Radiator cap could be bad. Spring in there is designed to release fluid only at a certain pressure. Caps go bad. Thermostat would only be a problem if it was stuck closed. Thermostat is designed to stop the radiator water flowing into the engine block until block get's to a certain temp. If cold water is flowing into a cold engine, it takes considerably longer to get to normal operating temp. If thermo is stuck close, of course you'd be overheating all the time. Stuck open not always that big a deal unless you live in cold climate where normal op temp is needed to prevent excessive internal wear. But again, stuck open wouldn't cause this issue best guess.

And last, what color was the fluid? Was it the natural color of the antifreeze, was it durty, if dirty maybe a flush is in order. Should be doing that every 50,000 miles or at least as often as the manual suggests. Now if the **** was milky brown, you got a serious problem in the engine, perhaps a head gasket or cracked head, or something else a brewing that's putting oil into the antifreeze.
