P0302

Hi all.

My car has started running rough but not all the time. No check engine light. I changed all the plugs and the problem is still there. I was going to change the coil but unsure where it's located. Looking from the front I thought it was closest to me on the right side (battery side) but I've also read it's on the left side.

I have the spare coil but in case that doesn't work, what next? I did eventually pull a P0302. Again it only seems to happen once the car has warmed up and it's usually worse after about 20 minutes driving.

Open to suggestions. Oh this is a 2007 Maxima.

Your code is specifically telling you where the problem lies. The "2" in 302 means cylinder 2.

Step 1. Clear your codes.
Step 2. Swap the coilpack 2 with coilpack 4 (cylinder 4) and see if the codes "moves" to cylinder 4. If so, you got a bad coilpack. Replace it. If the code remains at cylinder 2, then it could be injector related.
Step 3: Write more descriptive thread titles. One word titles are not tolerated here on the org. Thanks.

Standing in front of the car, cylinder two is closest to you at the left front of the engine. Cylinder 4 is the middle cylinder right in front of you. Cylinder 6 is next to 4 going right. Cylinders 1, 3 and 5 are at the back of the engine.

OK. That explains it. I swapped out the far right and still had an issue. I stopped by the auto parts store and picked up another and stuck it in the far left and that seems to have solved the problem. It did appear the connector was a bit loose so tomorrow I'll see about putting everything back to the original configuration, clear the codes and see if it was just a loose wire that was causing my problems.

Thanks for the help.
