2004 Maxima - ABS, Speedometer and Odometer Problem

Good morning all, I am hoping one of the experts here can help.

I have a 2004 Maxima with 278,000 miles. A couple of months ago the ABS started engaging when applying the brakes. I dealt with the corrosion problem around the rear sensors several years ago but didn't grind the additional drainage clearance so I thought maybe that was the problem. I disassembled the right rear wheel and everything was pretty clean, just a little road grime. For a while, no ABS light was on but it did finally illuminate. On most vehicles I have dealt with, when the light some on the system is disabled. I was actually a little happen when the light came on assuming that the system was then offline and I didn't have to deal with the ABS engaging.

Fast forward a bit and, after sitting for 9 days, I found the battery dead. With a jump the car started right up and ran fine. The next day when I turned the car off, I heard a humming noise. This turned out to be the ABS pump running, with the car off and the key out of the ignition. A little research found folks online saying to just cut the middle link in the 50-30-30 fusible link. I didn't care whether the ABS worked, I just didn't want the pump running the battery down. I did this and everything seemed fine. However, a couple of days later, the speedometer, odometer and cruise control stopped working. It seems no one really know what drives the speedometer. Some say it gets its signal from the ABS unit. Some say the signal comes from the wheel speed sensors. Others say the ABS unit but will use the VSS if ABS is unavailable.

Codes present are P0500 and P0574. I would appreciate some direction on how to get the speedometer and odometer functioning again. I don't really care about the ABS. Do I have to get the ABS working to fix the speedometer?
