Oil galley gaskets.
Oil galley gaskets.
I am replacing the timing chain on a 2005 Stock Vq with 110k. Is it common practice to replace the oil galley gaskets while I am in there or just leave well enough alone ? Do they go bad? I don't want to have to remove the front cover ever again
Thank you...
Thank you...
I've removed enough stock screws successfully without ever having to need the hex screws but if it's your first time, hell get the hex heads.
BUT if you do the job right with an impact screw driver then you'll have great success, yes.
Don't forget to buy new VTC o-rings and hell if you plan on taking high rpm trips above 6500 then get a rev-up oil pump, also replace the water pump o-rings while you're in there.
Oh and for the love of god, do NOT replace a 6g with stock 6g timing equipment, it's pure HOT GARBAGE, buy oem timing for a 350z (03-06 Z if you're a 04-08).

Does the gallery gaskets in the maxima (2005 in my case) correspond to the Z or ant other models. I would like to buy OEM if I could. If not Z1 motors ports site may have sone. You can't buy the oem Maxima gaskets separate from the TC cover but I see OEM gasket sets for the other models or engine type VQ35DE?
AAckshun,
Thanks for the advice. Researching the oil gallery gaskets, I come across two types. The first is a set made from a composite called Syntheseal. Z1 sells those. The second type is from Nisformance. The set they sell is a metal reinforced composite that I ASSUME is closer to the newer OEM style. Any wisdom that can be bestowed upon me as to which is better? I might be overthinking these gaskets.
Thank you
