Retune 2004 VQ35DE

Hello people,

I have a 2004 VQ35 here in sunny New Zealand, I got it for a couple of grand and it has 117 thousand k's on it (about 60 kk miles I think?)
I've been reading up on it a bit, I just got a pod filter/adapter and will fit that shortly. I have procured some Rockford Fosgate speakers and a better head unit to remedy the uninspiring audio setup (non bose).
Apparently, for the AU/NZ market the engine was detuned, does anyone know how to remedy this?
Really enjoying this car. Fun and fast. Gotta drive it like a big car though Not as zappy as the blacktop levin I owned years ago but almost as grunty and a lot more car.
Thank you in advance!

I saw a couple A33s when I was there a few years ago. Your country is absolutely beautiful by the way. I loved the time I spent there driving from Queenstown to Auckland (via ferry).

I'm not sure how they were de-tuned but you can't go wrong with an aftermarket Y-pipe if you can source it or gutting the pre-cats as a first mod. There's threads on here about how clogged pre-cats and kill the engine.

Based on this info from Wikipedia, you could probably get away with using a Teana or US Maxima ECU.

Youll want to verify connectors and the wiring pinout is the same, and the NATS system will need to be reprogrammed.

Or you could look into having your stock ECU tuned with uprev if its compatible.

I was wondering if something like this:
Amazon Amazon
...might do the same thing? What do you guys rekon?
If I knew what had been done to neuter the engine I could probably figure it out lol
Apparently I can get a USB/OBD2 connector and mess with it myself, might be a worthwhile investment

Cool, thank you!

I've got a OBD scanner cable on order, I'll interrogate the ecu and see what it says.

That "chip" in the link is nothing more than a resistor worth pennies in a useless $69 box. It connects to the air temp sensor and is supposed to fool the ECU into believing it is colder outside. They don't work.

hahahaha! That's pretty nasty, fooling a sensor is a bit dumb, isn't it?
Thank you for the heads up, I'll look into other options
