AC Problem in the Texas heat

I have a 2008 Nissan Maxima. Living in Texas it gets hot and a couple months the AC is just had a mind of its own. The fans blow, but the air is hot sometimes, and sometimes it blows just fine. Its almost like a gamble on whether it will work or not at this point. Not sure why this is happening. When it is earlier in the day OR at night the ac has no problem blowing cool air. There are no noises being made that ive read about. We had the compressor changed put about a yr ago. Tryna figure out the issue before my kids go back to school, dont want them in the heat on the drive to and from school. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated by our family. Thank you

Hello, I took my car to one of those Ac Check places, they said they checked my pressure and that we had to get a new "discharge hose" so we changed it and they put freon during that time it did cool for about 3 days but then went back to the random hot and cold air. Not sure if these things are similar just wanted to provide some more information. Also my car was acting up and we took it to Autozone a few months before this ac issue happened because my car was "studdering" and they kept reading something about the thermometer or thermostat? We werent having a problem with our ac at the time and the mechanic didnt think that was the reason for the car shaking so he just changed some spark plugs and the oil in the car. Do you believe the thermostat could also be the potential issue?
