Question about after market stereo

Hello All!

I would like to know how much of a 2008 Maxima is controlled from the radio. I installed an Alpine back in May which worked fine until December. I installed the Alpine as a replacement for the factory since the facotry radio would not turn off and would thus drain the battery. In December the Alpine started doing the same thing. The mechanic I took it to re-installed the old radio and explained that a lot of the accessories are powered through the radio on "newer" cars (again it's a 2008, not exactly old but not exactly new either). They said I should drive it for a couple of days but I won't be able to until Monday or Tuesday as we have very heavy snow. I firmly believe that it is NOT a radio issue and more so something electrical in the car itself, especially since both radios did the same thing. Possibly the ignition switch or something with the alternator.

Any help would be much appreciated! I've spent to much money trying to get this fixed to just have the old radio do the exact same thing it did before.

You might have hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the alternator. It's very well possible that one of the diodes in the alternator is shorted causing the battery to drain down. There's a few different ways of testing for this, your best bet is YouTube.
