First 09 built is in my garage

this is a historical moment on this site. VIN 800001

neroup5 - I have owned nothing but Maximas for almost 24 years, and loved the Datsun 810 from which the Maxima evolved back in the early 1980s. I was driving Datsuns when the name was changed to Nissan. This is the very first time I have ever seen/heard of/read about or had even the most nebulous contact with anyone associated with the very first Maxima to roll off the official production assembly line for any model year. This is very exciting for me. Thank you so much for that photo of the VIN plate. That gave me an adrelelin rush!

The 'first VIN' thing is sort of nebulous. There were '09 Maximas produced late last year for test purposes, but their VIN numbers were not in the Maxima range (800001 and up for each model year for the last several generations). Those early '09 Maxima test car VINs were in a range Nissan uses for test vehicles. The first official Maxima of the '09 asembly line regular production run will have VIN # 800001. It is possible that is the one being shown here. A photo of the VIN plate would tell us.
Armon - The photo showing the 'gap' between the top of the tires and the fenders is misleading. It was taken in a dark room, and the only light was the flash on the camera. The flash lit the car up from the bottom, and exaggerated the wheel 'gap'. We have had lots of side photos of the '09 scattered amongst the threads here, and the visually obvious wheel gap problem of the front wheels of the 6th gen is gone.
04BlackMaxx - The Maxima is a four door family sedan with very sporty styling and features, not a dragster. With gas around $4 a gallon (and rising), I would have no interest in a 350HP Maxima. 290 HP will give more than enough power to cruise at 140 MPH. As for RWD, Nissan makes them, and labels them 'Infiniti'. I drove RWD vehicles from 1949 until 1984, and never liked them. They are worthless in winter weather.
I feel Nissan really hit the 'sweet spot' in almost every category with this '09 Maxima. Of course a 6 speed manual would be the icing on the cake for some.

I think the G8 gets in the area of 19-20mpg average...I get about 23 average now. I get screwed on gas either way and a few mps's wi'll go unnoticed, heck I spend more on alcohol than gasoline anyway.

pretty nice...
Notice the wheel gap though...
it looks even front to back, where with my 6th gen its more noticable only in the front.

I wouldn't put too much weight on that photo. I'm dropped, and using the same exact angle and lighting makes my car look jacked up.

The main reason that appears jacked up is b/c there is so much light shining on the wheel wells. I bet if the lighting was from above (no flash) you'd not notice the gap nearly as much.

sparks is correct about the angle and lighting being the reasons it appear there is a large wheel gap. On this 7th gen board, we have seen (or been given links to) dozens of side shots of the '09 Maxima in outdoor lighting, and in those photos, the wheel gaps look very small and appropriate.
Having examined '09 Maximas just off the assembly line at the Smyrna factory a few weeks ago, and having spent three hours just circling one close up at the Atlanta Auto Show, I can assure anyone here that when you see this car in person, you will not notice a wheel gap unless you are obsessed with wheel gaps.
The reality is that, unless there is some clearance above the front tires, the wheel can't be turned. That would sort of limit use of the car.
Nissan got the wheel gaps right this time.

Ok, I have a serious request.
1st of all, I would like to congratulate you on the car. Whether that is just a car for the moment, part of your job, or any other reason the fact remains you have the car. We are all here drooling over the fact that you have it and some of us really have some good questions. Im not going to ask what you do or how you got the car.
I would love to see some night pictures of the car with the light on if at all possible. I would really like to see how the car looks at night with the headlights, brake, and turn signal lights. If you are going to be taking more pictures of the car to post, I hope you can take some night shots.
Thanks a lot man, even if I dont get the night pictures the ones you already provided look amazing.

If he were, wouldn't he know it was a CVT? You don't get promoted to that level in the organization without knowing what you are talking about. I also question why one max is Silver then the pics of the other are blue.
#67
I'm not sure where he made the mistake of transmissions, but he specifically stated that the silver one is in his driver's hands now, and he now has a blue one to play around with.

My guess was that the car is in-fact, a "PP" car. I ran the VIN# thru the Nissan system and then called Nissan distribution, determining that the cars he had access to were in-fact, "Pre-Production" cars that are used for exhibition venues and for loan to 'mag-writers'. Nothing short of a "laser etched" vin# plate and a Buyers Order would satisfy as real ownership of said claimed vehicle(s).

Hey I dont think he ever claimed to own the car or be the final owner. Many of you people are too caught up with all this crap about what he does, how he got the car, and if it is legit. I dont care if he actually owns the car or if he is a car broker or whatever else. I am just hear to get information on the car. Come on people any reason why he would not want to answer with all these stupid comments.

I do not own any Maxima's seen here. My job, where I live, and who I know, really don't need to come into play. I'm a Nissan fan, especially Maxima's. I'm glad some of you liked the pics, and that it might have brought a little excitement to your day - lightonthehill. This was a pretty big deal to me, thats why I shared it here. Spending some time in the Maxima was like being a Yankee fan, catching a home run that Jeter hit. If that last sentence doesn't make sense, just know I still have a smile on my face from driving this car.

ok ok i get the joke but i seriously thought it was something else, and its not as bad as it looks the picture makes it higher, i wanna get my car drop but i live in new orleans pothole mania but i had wheel gap with my stock honeycomb rims, but anywho i like the new maxi had a diffrent reaction to it then when i first saw sixth gen although sixth gen is a nice car in its on way, but my fourth is running strong maybe it'll last till 7.5 comes out

That's what i'm thinking, too. The center stack and screen seems to have been lifted from the old parts bin. From what i know, even the base 09 will be using a nicer screen (similar to a non nav-equipped G35 or Murano), not the orange screen from the older Murano or 6th gen.
Then again, i could be wrong.
