And Ferrari & Venom GT recommend nothing but Pennzoil.. All this to say that this is nothing but a partnership. Doesn't mean the oil is necessarily better than a competitor's. Pennzoil Ultra has however been proven to give the best protection of any oil on the market.

Couple this with a K&N HP-1010 and you'll be great for over 7,500 miles. Could go longer but I would not trust any oil over 7,500 miles on these VQ motors because I'm sure you've heard how hard they can be on oil.

People do however run oil over 10,000 mile increments on this engine perfectly fine but to me it's just peace of mind to know that I don't wait to the end of my oil life to change it.

P.S. I do not work for Pennzoil just really love their product because I read multiple reviews and oil analysis before settling on a oil brand and Pennzoil Ultra won every time!

While I appreciate this oil is better than this oil comments, after all there is a whole web site forum dedicated to it http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/, at the end of the day you guys should be *****ing at the size of the oil filter Nissan spec'ed for this car. I service a bunch of cars and cut up oil filters for the fun of it, just to see how well any particular filter holds up. The amount of filter material in HP1008, Mobil1 M1-108, Puro L14612 and Nissan's own filter is pathetic. Compare that with VW 1.8T w940/25 filter and ours has less than 10% of filtering media.
BTW Mobil and K&N are practically the same filter except for the useless nut on top of K&N.
Once the media is all clogged up the oil will be flowing through oil bypass unfiltered. If you are going extended oil intervals, I highly recommend replacing oil filter half way.
Here is a link to filter demo to see the inside of our filters

That said, I go 7500miles with Mobil1 EP 5w30 oil and M1-108 oil filters.

You might have a point about the filter size but many people run the regular filter just fine. The K&N filter specific for this car is actually the HP-1008 or the PS-1008. I went above that and went with the bigger HP-1010 for it's bigger filter media and through reading that it was also compatible with our max. Has been about 700 miles on this oil change and HP-1010 filter and I have had no problems thus far.

If you run Stillen's oil cooler it changes the filter; the one I have is bigger now but sort of makes it hard for the fender liner to fit

yep, sorry my bad, you are right 1008 is the spec'ed K&N, I got the other two right though :-)

For some reason I thought there were more differences between 10 and 08 than just height. Apparently the bypass valve pressure is the same, according to Puro site its 14-18psi. So if it fits, absolutely, go for it.

I may also switch to Mazda Skyactiv filter, which is equivalent to L14612, but heads and shoulders better built than any aftermarket equivalent filters that I looked at.

What filter are you running with the oil cooler?

Yes you did and let me know how that filter works out. At the end of the day, the filter is more important than the oil and that's why I don't go to firestone lol

I've read in other forums plenty of problems with castrol oil and their cars. I've read very few forums bad mouthing mobil 1. That is why I stated to stay away from it.

I hope you guys understand that brand itself means absolutely nothing. Its all about formulation. Last I checked there is only ONE formulation of Castrol that was fit to use in the likes of BMW and Mercedes, something like 5w30 made in Germany. Most of local auto parts stores dont even carry it, so I use mostly 0w40 Mobil1 for Euro cars.
You gotta look for certification labels on the back to make sure it is compatible with BMW or MB or VW spec.
I have used plenty of Castrol GTX regular oil for conventional 5k oil changes and had not had any issues.
