Exactly, most Nissan's use the same GPS receiver/system/brain, even down to the wiring.

Oh! and don't forget to bring it back here when you find out, so we can put it in the stickies.

Yes, it's the VSS. I've read about other folks doing it and HOW they did it.

You have to put a relay/switch in line with the VSS to the unit. then, flip it off. The map stops updating. you program it and flip it back. Hopefully at that point, the GPS updates your position. If not, the next time you come to a stop, it'll sync up accurately.

I am trying to figure out what would be the benefit to hacking the GPS system in the 09 Max, I find itto be very user friendly. Will it be more useful or easier to use if you do hack it?

I heard the 09 maxima GPS doesnt says the street names? does it means its a lower end GPS? I mean.. I thought a good GPS would atleast say street names? I know there is a ton of "point of interest"..so what are the other great features from the 09 maxima nav???

does it play video when parked..like if you connect your portable dvd or Ipod interface with video out???

I have used my GPS a ton since I bought my baby and it took a little while to get it up and running but now it works very well with no issues. It does say street names and you can even enter popular destinations like Hooters or Golf Galaxy and it will tell you what is the nearest and give you immediate directions. The NAV does play videos and DVD's through the video interface but only when the vehicles is in park and completly motionless. I just played a few videos via my IPOD in the garage to play with the options.

Which IPod do you have? Does it also play the videos from your IPod if you are driving or only when in park? When listening to songs from the Ipod does it show the album artwork or just generic artist and song info? I ask because I have an IPod touch and want to know if all this is possible.

Well I have an IPOD Nano 3rd Gen and I also have an IPHONE 3G. It will only play the videos while in the park and the brake engaged. It will only show the generic song info and artist no album artwork either. The IPOD interface is an awesome addition to the vehicle and you can control all apects of your IPOD via the OEM head unit, I never have to touch my IPOD or IPHONE once it is connected. I can scroll through my playlist and change songs right on the scree. I find it to be very user friendly!

Does anybody know how to gack the bluetooth and video when the car is driving? I was told that if you ground the parking brake the brake lights will remain on the entire time. I was told also that the maxima uses some sort of speed sensor to disable the bluetooth and video functions. For instance, you can put the car in drive and enter numbers into your phonebook with your foot on the brake. But once you let go of the brake, the car will automatically kick you out of the phonebook setup.

Does anyone know how to get the video to play movies thru your ipod using the video/audio input while driving ? I have a 09 max and the only way the video will display is for the car to be in park and the emergency brake engaged.

I don't think anyone has found a way to do this yet??? right?? I have searched the internet and looked at other forums and no info yet for the 09 MAX......it has become very annoying not being able to input information in the GPS while driving even with a passenger in the vehicle. You would have thought that they would have an interface that would recognize a passenger in the vehicle just like the air bag does and allow for you to imput data while in motion.

Oh well I guess we just have to be paitient....I am sure someone will come up with a solution after they have tinkered with their systems....hopefully sooner than later!

I have the factory service manual for the 09 and did take a look at the wiring and it is identical to the infiniti EX35 so you hack the gps and the display to play the movie while in motion.

09 max without NAVI, the VSS is pin number 107 and ebrake pin 106
09 max with NAVI, the VSS is pin number 82 and ebrake pin 80

there is an instruction that someone did a mod on the infiniti EX35 which can be use on the max from NicoClub. this instruction doesn't show you how to remove system from the console on the maxima but the mod on electronic is the same. so you have to figure out how to remove the console cover on your own. it should not be difficult to remove the system from the console.

I would do it. But for the life of me, I am unable to figure out how to remove the Cluster Lid D (the cover for the screen with the round jog dial controller **** and 2 A/C outlet) and the Cluster Lid C (Bose Audio system with climate control).

anyone out there know how or have already remove it before, please post the instruction how to remove the radio.

i'v never done(yet) it but it can't be hard i'v removed radios on 3-6th gens and g35s etc and never needed a writeup. just look at the FSM for how the dash is put together. or ask in the audio section where prof installers troll.

By grounding the e-brake wire, won't the brake lights stay on when you are watching a movie while driving?

if you cut E-brake line and ground the line from plug side, it won't light up the e-brake light. But you also need to cut the VSS line also.

the best thing to do is to use 1 or 2 relays (1 for VSS and 1 for e-brake) together with a switch. That way you can flip back and forward to factory mode if needed.

The down side (which need to confirm) of doing this mod is that the information center won't be able to calculate the MPG and won't be able to record fuel consumption history if you flip the switch or disengage the VSS to watch video. Without the VSS, they information center can not tell if the car is moving and how fast and i'm not sure if the sensitive volume control gain works without the VSS or not. Again, this has to be confirmed.

sensitive volume control gain uses the vss. so it'll not work. also your speedo shouldn't work if the VSS is disconnected.

Are you telling me cutting the VSS wire from the back of the radio will make the speedo from the main instrument stop working or the information center? If main instrument then that is strange because Armada and EX35 have the same electrical configuration and a lot have done this and no one said anything that cutting the VSS of the back of the radio kill the speedo. If that is the case why bother to do the mod just to watch the video and unable to tell how fast the car is going?

The KPtechnologies NI35 Navigation Interface should work on the '09 Max as the '09 Max looks identical to the system used in the G37. It allows you to use the OEM "ENTER" button to trigger a relay to bypass the VSS - so you don't have to worry about adding extra swithches.

It sounds like you guys have the parking brake situation under control - no parts needed, just permanently ground it.

On the G37s even with the VSS disabled the infocenter calculates the fuel usage correctly. The only thing that doesn't work is the actual navigation - the position is stationary while the VSS is disconnected but updates when VSS is reconnected.

It has been done, here are links to instructions on the EX35 and on the Armada/QX56, both mods are identical.

I have personally completed this mod on my '08 Armada.

it has been done on EX35 and on the Armada/QX56 but not the Maxima 09. No one know how to remove the radio and the screen off the Max yet. if you do, post some screen shot on how to remove the radio from the Max 09 and I do the mod and let you know.

www.nicoclub.com has the Factory Service Manual available for download for the '09 Maxima. That should show you how to remove the factory stereo and show you where the VSS and E-Brake wires are. Here is a link to a thread at NICOclub. This should make it a piece of cake for you guys!
