It's called a helmholtz resonator that's inline with your PCV hose that connects to the intake tube. I'm actually planning on dumping this resonator and putting a PCV oil/air separator catch can in it's place to get rid of crankcase oil vapors before they're dumped back into the air supply before the TB. If anyone wants more info, let me know.

i actually totally took that thing off and just ran a straight hose because i opened mine up after 80,000 miles and there was absolutely no sign of oil in it.....and oil doesnt evaporate either. So i doubt there is a need for it but none the less good idea on the oil catch can let me know how that works out...i also would like to see a pic of the one you choose to install but be sure to make a new thread

Thanks!

I was tempted to get rid of the resonator when I put the intake on... but had NO clue at the time what the hell it was!

help

I bought a used stillen from a nice guy on here. Two questions. I think I may be missing a part or two and need some confirmation. Stillens website is down and i am impatient. I think there is some sort of bracket that looks like one of those little flat wrenches you get to put furniture together (lol best way I can describe it) i saw it on the stillen site last night. The other looks like a metal piece that mounts flush on teh intake. It is missing from where i think the MAS goes in. Heres a pic. It is just black but I think it should have like a metal fitting around teh opening.

Also the intake had 15000 miles on it. How often should you change teh actual filter??

Do you mean a small rectangular opening on the backside of the intake pipe? If so, this is for the MAF sensor. No metal fitting was included on mine. Your stock MAF sensor has a rubberized gasket already on it that will seal everything when you install it into the new Stillen intake pipe.

There is a bracket that bolts onto the end of the K&N conical filter, which also bolts onto the side of the engine bay. See figure 3 of the installation instructions from Stillen's website. Install is a piece of cake once you get all the stock airbox stuff out of the way. Also ensure that he included the PCV hose that will connect to the front side of the intake pipe (post MAF).

http://www.stillen.com/product_files/402974~inst.pdf

Also, the K&N filter doesn't need to be 'replaced'. It's a million mile filter, just need to clean it and re-oil it every 30K or so. The recharge kits for the k&n filters are available online.

Ok so I have no real experience with cars and engines but i am learning. I figured an intake was a good place to start. I just installed the Stillen intake that I bought used. Couple of questions. Number one the one i got also came with that long hose with the 4 inch square box attached to it. I had the exact same part on the car and i didnt see any mention of it in the instructions so i just used the stock one. To clarify this is the little black box that connects to the small hose that goes to the main pipe and it has like 4 white numbers printed on it. That brings me to my second question. That little 2 inch hose seems to be kinked a little. In the other install pics it looks totally straight. Is a small kink a problem, doesnt look like its restricting anything?

lastly the MAS didnt have a rubber gasket when i took it off the stock intake, i am positive or at least not on that was evident to me? Is that a major issue. Should i order one.

Thanks

I am defiitely worried that there is no rubber gasket where the MAS goes. I am concerned as to why my stock one wasnt there either. I have an 09 if that matters?

There should already be a foam type gasket on the MAF that helps it seal to the factory intake hose. I'd double check to ensure you have it.

What do you guys think of building your own system? It looks to only be an aluminum pipe with about a 30 degree bend, a hose connector, a port for the MAFS and a flange on the other end to connect the K&N filter. Is it more than meets the eye?

Does anyone know if this piece is needed when putting the stock intake back on? I didnt and for some reason my idle is all over the place. The car even died once...so im not sure what im missing.

Well thought nothing of it, then it started again, well i removed the battery cable and finished the install. Once i had finished i wanted to hear the noise so i went to start it and ....well the car had been IMMOBILIZED !!!! CRAP, had to get a tow truck out. After waiting more than 1 hour, arrived at the dealer, they let me know that the CPU had gone into DETERRENT MODE< meaning all the safety systems had switched thru out the vehicle.
after almost 2 hours been on the diagnostic table ,they let me know that all systems had been reset, i could have avoided this by JUST removing the battery cable. Well i have to say that since then the MPG has increase by a .7 MPG...had 21.6 now 22.3 and the power that the car has is AWESOME, PLUS the rumble is getting some extra attention.....
IN regards to warranty , i asked if the intake would void any of it? They responded with NO, unless you encounter hydra lock, but due to the fact that the intake is up so high, chances are very slim.....
WOW!!! I didn't know that we needed to remove the negative cable after installing the stillen. I just installed mine last week and I must say I noticed a difference right off the back. But now I'm a little worried about this whole pulling the negative cable off. I know you can lose memory and need to go the dealer and re-program the car but I was wondering if I should use my computer saver kit which I used on the car when my battery was dying on me. ( FYI I went with the Sears Platnium Which is a great battery and has a 8 year warranty. 5 years exhange and the rest pro rate. Used this battery on a toy that was using a lot of equipment and never let me down. ) I saw someone post that too disconnect the cable for 2 mins. Is that right or does it have to be longer and what are the chances that I can lose memory and need to go get it re-programmed ????

So apparently you do. As soon as i put it back on the car ran like normal. I didnt even hook it back up to wherever it goes in the back of the intake manifold. Cant seem to reach back there.

Question

I also bought and installed the Stillen Intake and love it, but I did have a question, my intake came with a aluminum piece looks like a small block that extends the MAF out of the Intake. Does this have to be installed, I do not have it installed now and was wndering if I need to?

We made a running production change to lengthen the MAF boss for newer vehicles (2011+) experiencing a CEL. These shipped in the interim as extensions. If you're not seeing a check engine light, there is no reason to install, but we included it for you.

you lose your radio stations bro. you dont need the dealer to reprogram that. and yea id advise pulling the negative anytime you add a performance part. and the only way to get a true CAI is to make one yourself, none of these manufacturers make a true CAI all they make is WAI/SRI and advertise them as CAI lol

Just installed mine last night even though the dealer said it will void my warrenty- I just couldn't resist It took a bit longer than expected but then again most things I do does. The big thing that gave me a hard time was lineing up the bracket from the middle of the cone to the engine bay.

All done crossed my fingures and press the start button- No engine lights- yeh. Took for a soin and the new noise is awhsome!!

The only problem now is my automatic window will not work in the up button on both sides. They work going down but not up. I disconnected the battery while installing the CAI but I have no idea what happen and I will hate to take it to the dealer if it is something stuppid like a fuse or something. Do any of you guys have a clue?

Thanks
Greg

To fix the window just roll it up and keep holding the window up button for abt 10sec after the window closed.. That should fix the problem...
