Just replaced my wipers with the Bosch Icons and very happy with them so far. I can't believe I drove a full year settling with the ones that were on the car.

Because in this thread back on 5/29/09, LtLeary told us to be sure to get the 'As' instead of the 'Bs'.

I seem to remember (but am probably wrong) that he later said something to the effect that he found the 'B's were very difficult to attach to the wiper arms, so he swapped the 'B's for 'A's, which went on very easily. I suppose that, if you could get the 'B's attached, they would wipe just fine, but that is purely a guess.

Yeah, the difference is the "mount" and the offset (blades don't always mount right in the Center of the blade.)

Just bought the Bosch Icons, and they are top quality. To reconfirm- sizes 417A and 428A are the sizes needed for a 2009 Maxima. There is a small release mechanism on the side of the wiper that releases the blades and allows you to slide them off of the holders. Extremely easy to do as mentioned before.

I bought mine at Autozone, and Autozone is running a mail in rebate promotion where you receive 50% off one of the wiper blades when buying at least two. Bosch also has a $15 mail-in-rebate when you purchase at least two blades. Both require the original UPC from the package, so understand you will not receive both rebates (if you follow their rules). Photocopies are not allowed. I went with the Bosch rebate.

I paid $46 at Autozone ($43 blades + 3$ tax) for the two blades. I'm sure they can be bought cheaper somewhere else. There is no Pepboys close to me. I am just happy to have these blades installed here in Illinois where it now is grey and rainy about 80% of the time. Anyone know of a source who is selling these much cheaper?

I think mine were $37 something for both from Amazon with free shipping.

One more +1 for the Bosch Icons. I had streaks that were like sheets right in front of my face that no window cleaning would help...new wipers work great. Thanks for the advice!

amen to the last few posts. About 37 at amazon with free shipping and a 15 rebate. Plus, these things blow away the stocks. They are awesome.

I had bosch icon on my 05, the "A" version. All I can say is they sucked, streaked and clattered. Passenger side did not touch the far end of the lower front window by a few inches. Definitily not worth the money. Not sure if the "B" version has a different curve to it.

Bosch may have changed their wipers, because folks here are having good luck with them on the '09. Of course the different size blades probably have different effectiveness. The driver's side blade on the '09 is 28 inches long, which is the longest blade I have ever seen on a Maxima.

We had a poster report here back in the spring (?) that the Bosch Icon 'B' blades are difficult to install on the Maxima.

Bosch Icons are great!

I changed my blades on my 08 just after 6 months to the 09 wiper blades. It was good, but will chatter some times. But kept them for a year and last month, pep boys had instant 50% off. I jumped on it. Both blades were about 42. But with the 50%, took it to 21. I remember paying less than 23 bucks out the door!

I just love them. Streak-free!!! I have always had these blades before I sold my Camry for the Maxima. Bought a new set too for my wifeys Camry.

just wanted to add my two sense here, but I haven't even had my 2010 Max 3 months and from day one the wiper blades suck; they have streaks and seem to smear the window when clearing water off of it

one little trick I learned from an Acura mechanic one time is to use an alcohol wipe every month or two to help clean the debri and dirt out of the blades; I tried this on the Max already and it did help get rid of some of the streaking and smearing that they original caused but there is still some

Within a year, I'm most likely going to replace them with Bosch Icons or Rain-x latitude blades; only thing with the Rain-x blades are, I tried them on my TL one time and because they have such a tall, thick adapter, 1/3 of the passenger side blade didn't touch the window and so I had to return them!

I don't think the blades are totally to blame. I think part of it is that nissan went with a cheap glass company instead of using nissan glass. If you look in the corner where they badge the glass, its not stamped nissan like the drive and passenger windows are.

Depending on the issue, the wipers are 100% to blame for the issues we have been having. My windshield streaked like crazy in the rain. I put new wipers on and kazzam no more streaking. No rain-x, no cleaner, nothing else was used or replaced besides the wipers. Also, the windshield I had estimated at a third party. It was $1500. That's not quite so cheap for me.

if you didn't read my earlier posts, the alcohol wipes I used on the blades has vastly improved the wiping quality of the blade, I want to get some of my money worth out of the blades, the car costs enough

plus both the Bosch Icon and Rain-X latitude blades are expensive as hell, the bosch alone would be 60 bucks since the driver side blade on the max is 28inches

I got mine for $36 shipped free from Amazon. If you have gotten it improved and can tolerate it, then kudos. Just saying I debated but am happy with my decision to replace, regardless of the cost.

1 - Why would there be no mention of wiper blade size in any of the documentation that came with the '09 Maxima?

2 - Why would Nissan use a blade whose length includes a fraction of an inch?

I still can't answer the first question, but just went out and measured very carefully, and I think I CAN answer the second question. Measuring VERY carefully, I find the large (driver side) blade is exactly 27 3/4" long. We know blades would not be made in such a trivial size, so obviously this blade is a 'nominal' 28" in length.

I also measured from the center of the axis/hub on which the blade arm is mounted to the end of the wiper blade, then swung that length upward across the windshield. It does not extend quite as high as the top of the windshield.

When we think about it, going from 27 3/4" to 28" is only a quarter of an inch, and as the blade is centered on the arm, half that quarter inch extends in one direction (outward) and half in the other direction (inward), so the actual upward reach of the wiper blade is only increased by 1/8th inch.

************************************************** *****************

In summary, after very careful measurement, THE NOMINAL SIZE OF THE WIPER BLADE ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE '09 MAXIMA IS ACTUALLY 28 INCHES.

************************************************** *****************
1. Because they want you to go to one of their dealers and pay an arm and a leg for new wipers

2. See 1.

You know what I don't understand, it isn't just the Maxima with these lousy new wiper blade designs, Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti are all putting them on their cars now and they all stink right from the start

I've never seen a brand new wiper blade, such as these, cause so much streaking and smearing of a window right from the start; I had a 2009 TSX loaner car a few weeks ago with these new blades and it had about 12k miles on the car; the blades smeared and streaked so badly I couldn't drive with them on because it actually made it so much worse to see out the front windshield; I actually had to turn them off and drive with the wipers not on at all; luckily I didn't have far to drive with the car

I just think this new flat blade wiper design all the car manufactures are using just stinks; when I first saw them I thought they'd be better than the old design but I wrong; the blade and housing design looks similar to the one used by Rain-X latitude and Bosch Icon yet those two blades wipe completely differently then what the car manufactures are putting on, go figure?

I've heard many opinions about wiper blades, both good and bad. The guy from southern CA probly uses his wipers 2 or 3 times a year. So this is not an issue for him. I have lived in North Carolina and currently in Memphis, TN. A couple of things I do on a regular basis. RAIN-X...I've been using it since the 1970's (yes I'm that old). I apply it to my windshield every too weeks. The other thing is keep your wiper blades clean. Use plain old soap and water. Remember they get just as dirty if it does not rain for a while as if it does. Don't use alcahol...it dries up the rubber prematurely. Also I change my wiper blades once a year.

That's my opinion and, aparently I think a lot of it! lol

The ONLY glass Nissan has used in Maximas for many years is Carlex. I just checked the '10s today (I already knew about the '09s), and ALL '09 and '10 Maximas use ONLY glass from Carlex (the best). Slide a sheet of white paper on top of the left end of the dash, then step outside the car and you can read the 'Nissan Carlex' as well as the DOT numbers rather easily. Replacement windshields will usually have the 'Nissan' etched out (but still readable), and a few shops sometimes use windshields reading 'Carlite' instead of 'Carlex'. But all these versions are the same piece of glass, and come from the same factory. I researched this extensively before getting my windshield replaced.

Wiper blades are one of the most neglected components on vehicles today. Many blades are cracked, split, torn, brittle, worn or otherwise in obvious need of replacement. Others may look okay, but do a lousy job of wiping when put to the test.

When I ordered my Bosch wipers from Amazon on Nov 21st, the order slip stated that the estimated arrival date would be Nov 30th. I figured, no problem since it was free shipping. They arrived yesterday! I just installed them. Started the wipers and hit the wiper fluid. I was amazed at the difference!! Thanks for letting me and everyone else know about these Icons!

I just replaced my blades after 8 months and went with the Bosch Evolutions. They are cheaper than the Icons and use the same rubber compound and profile as the Icons. The only difference I know of is that the rubber between the blade and the frame which gives the flexing motion is a different compound. They so far work great and can be gotten on Amazon.

Please keep us apprised of the longevity of these. I was going to try these out back in April but couldn't find any at that time. If I can find them locally, I may just give them a try myself as I am about ready to replace my Icons (its been 8 or 9 months so I'm about due (they get used almost every day.))

Anyone know how the ICONs hold up against Snow/Wintery Mix? My OEM wipers clog up and become completely useless after about 5-10 min of use in this weather. Makes me grumble.

Well, with wet snow at around 30 degrees they're great. I can't say how they're going to perform when the rubber gets down to zero degrees. Seems I should be able to let you know tomorrow...

Ok I looked and didn't see it in here and I am torn between two bosh products. Which are better the ICON's or the Evolution's? They look the same to me pretty much.

$15 Mail-in Rebate for ICON's... Might be worth a try since they extended the rebate until Feb 28th.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I've had the Icons and the Valeo Ultimates, which are the original beam blade that so many companies (Bosch, Anco, RainX, Michelin etc.) have now copied. I won't but the Icons again.

I just bought the 2nd generation of the Ultimates from Amazon and got their $15 instant rebate(no mail-in), which is good until Dec. 31st.

BTW, I just paid $19.96 total shipped.... free shipping and the $15 rebate at checkout.
