30k a good price for a used loaded 2009 maxima with 5,000 miles
I was looking around and found a 2009 Maxima with 5000 miles on it for $30,000. I would have it inspected if I bought it, but it looks to be in excellant condition. It was lease that the owner could not afford the payments on.
It is loaded with the premium/nav/double sunroof packages.
I think it is a good deal, i'm just a little worried that with the 2010 models rolling in that I might still be paying too much. Any thoughts?

An '09 with the Premium and Tech (nav) packages (and splash guards and mats) has an MSRP between $39K and $40K, and can be had from some dealers for around $34.5K, which is the figure we will use for evaluating this deal. A few dealers will go lower than that, but some won't go that low. So, in effect, you are giving up 5K miles for $4.5K dollars. If the car was not abused during those 5K miles, you will be doing well.
Looking at it another way, assuming this Maxima will be good for around 150K miles, you will be saving around 1/7th of the price of the car by giving up approximately 1/30th of the usable mileage. Great deal!
But then the 'glass half empty' crowd might say that only 36K of the mileage is under warranty, so you would be giving up 1/7th of the warranted mileage in return for 1/7th off the price. But even looking at it in that very negative way, you do no worse than break even.
If everything checks out (and do check every function of this baby very carefully), and the car has not been abused, this sounds like a good deal. You have security in that there is still 31K miles left under warranty; even more on the power train.

I would OFFER NO MORE than $25k. $30k is way too much. Let them come back to you some. $26,500 to 27,000 is the most I personally would pay. It is a used car. The dealership has gotten profit from it once.
My '09 new (bought on Monday) Premium/Tech was $31,100. BMW is not the only one who can deal with the dealers. I was a buyers assistant (salesman) once upon a time.
Sticker price don't mean jack. Don't get ripped off.

This is a valid point. They took in a lease down payment of probably around 3k, plus half a year of payments at probably around $400-450 a month. I think they can afford to sell this car for a much less than $30,000. I like this idea much better.

i paid 31,700 for sport nav black on black brand new. personally, i wouldnt pay 30k for one with 1,000 miles on it. you "could" ask them to honor it as a new warranty which they can do, but i would push their buttons and make them work to sell it. you can get brand new for what you want. or tell them to apply the $1,250 cash back to the 30k, and tell them 28,500.
good luck, let us know what happens

I got an SV with the tech package (no sport or premium package) for $29,500 after the $1250 incentive last month. The same dealership had the identical car with 9,000 miles on their used lot and wouldn't budge off their $29,000 asking price. Apparently the incentives they were getting from Nissan for new cars were clouding their judgement on selling used machines.
Jeff, BMW, were those prices net of incentives from Nissan? I thought I had done well, but DAMN!

I sure hope you meant Joke and not jerk. Then your really going to think i'm a @$$ for getting $9,000 for my '02 Maxima GLE w/ 80,000 miles. I guess you can do the math a see how much i paid. Oh i forgot the extend warranty for 6 years 100,000 miles bumper to bumper gold preferred.

Well I talked to the guy today and he said that he would sell it to me private party too, which means that b/c I live in Nevada I would not have to pay sales tax...
Even more tempting now. I think you guys are right about the price. I might offer around 26 and see what happens.

Wait dealer saying he is going to sell you at private party sale for no taxes, that sounds off to me. anyone else thinks this is fishy? Does this include all the warrantie's. IDK about this. tread lightly on this. good luck

Just an fyi, I just bought a 2009 3.5S that had a sticker of 29,985. I got the 1250 rebate, and after negotiations (aggressive at times), got the car for $27K. That is a lot of car for $27K, let me tell you. :-)

omelet, there was a used SV sport when I was shopping and the dealer wouldn't budge off of $30k for it. I don't think $30k for a Premium w/5k miles is a horrible price.
It's hard to gauge the deal not knowing what the original sticker and option list is. I'd like to know where some of you guys getting STELLAR deals are shopping. Please give an option list and a dealer name so we can look them up.

list on my 09 sv sport tech was 38,950. after 15% discount, 1250 rebate, some other mumbo jumbo got to 31,700. after my trade (2000 maxse) TT and extended warranty up to 100k i walked out the door for about 33k. still, in my opinion a good deal for a 40k car.

Nissanworlddenville.com My was listed for $39,325. Got them down to $31,000 - $9,000 for my trade plus a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty + spoiler. i walked out with mine after taxes and all the other goodies the great state of NJ has about $27,000 out the door for the car. I even negotiated the interest rate. I thought there was a special rate on the maxima when i bought it. they said no it wasnt they came back with 8% from some bank. I told them thats used cars rates and that it was bull and they could keep the car. Then i told them i would find my own rate. Long story short they beat my rate from my bank so i'm only paying about 3.5% interest.
