EXHAUST QUESTION!

I want to get the Stillen Exhaust for my Maxima, but I was thinking of only getting the Axle-Back, not the full Cat-Back.If I do that, can I just have my exhaust guy make me an X-Pipe or Y-Pipe? Also what if I got a complete custom made exhaust would it differ in sound from the Stillen? Because all in all it's the engine that makes the sound not the pipes. Let me know your guys opinions! Thanks!

Its also the mufflers that makes the sound as well!.. If you go with a custom exhaust setup, with different mufflers lets say magnaflow, it will sound different from the stillen catback.

Could be a costly experiment, sound will be the challenge IMO.

The difference in sound from one muffler and a set of pipes to another muffler and a different set of pipes is ridiculous. I guess it depends on how cheap the custom exhaust can be fabbed up for. The advantage of getting a manufactured system over getting a custom exhaust is that it's not a game of russian roulette on sound. Lots of time and research went into making that manufactured exhaust system.

I know the muffler makes a big difference in the sound the car makes. I don't care too much if I don't get performance gains, I just want a little more of an agressive sound in my car, could I just change out the mufflers for Borla mufflers and tips and keep my OEM-piping?

I guess it depends on whether or not it fits in the hangers. You may want to look into that before you get one. But yes, that would work too.

I have the magnaflow too and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty(salt in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here. magnaflow 15980, or you can try one of the vendors here on the forum. Also most altmia exhausts work with very little modification

I would love to hear a sound clip or maybe even see a video clip of the Magnaflow exhaust on the MAX!!!!! To see if there is a big difference from the stillen setup I currently have!

IF anyone is interested I will be selling my stock 2009 Maxima Rear Exhaust sections in the parts for sale section of the forum!
