iPod users - Do you just leave it plugged in all the time?

Hey guys...just got my hands on a used 30GB iPod that I might buy from a friend and have been trying it out in my car after so many peeps on the forums here talked about how it's the best way to go. The music box was annoying me with all the disabled functionality when the car is moving and not sure I wanna do the bypass deal just yet. Anyway, was just wondering...do other users of the iPod in our cars just leave it plugged in all the time? I guess you could just leave the thing powered on and plugged up 24/7 right? And the it will just be charging every time you're in the car? I'm just usually kind of **** about stuff like that (i.e. will it degrade the battery life to be constantly on and charging little bits here and there all the time) so just figured I'd see what others were doing? Thanks in advance!

hey rawbutt, when I got my Maxima, I went and bought a 80gb refurb from apple, it has been in the glove box ever since, I am not sure how good the battery is, but I dont really care because I consider it a hard wire mod. only take it out to update songs.

another thing was I am not going to burn 20-30 cd's just to transfer to jukebox....

Yes the 80Gb, 120GB, and 160GB - 6th Gen Ipods also known as the "Classic" will charge just fine in the Max. I have the 160 and never had a problem.

D-STREET,

That option sounds interesting...probably a dumb question, but is the option on the car or on the ipod. Also, does it also turn it back on for you when you try to access the ipod the next time, or would I have to manually turn it on?

Thanks!

I have never seen the option on my 2009 Maxima with Ipod Interface. Where in the menus do you find it? Has anyone else seen it?

I've never heard of this option, either.

I had a first generation Nano exhibit reduce battery life (while unplugged from a charging source) after having it plugged into my Maxima for almost a year. About a year ago I got a new Nano- that doesn't charge on this system.

I think the constant charging of the first iPod, might have contributed to the problem. However it is annoying to unplug it ever time I stop.

BTW, there is an adapter that will allow the Maxima to charge newer iPods. There's a link for it in the other 7th Gen thread about iPods. I believe it's just $20.

I too have not seen it but I can say that my IPod 160gb does indeed charge and turn-off (or perhaps it is suspend?) automagically with no intervention...it will restart at the point where I've turned off the car when I start the car, even after a week of disuse.

I also leave mine plugged in. But I have a iPod Touch that I use for couch-based websurfing so I do take inside at night on a frequent basis.

The operation is a little erratic. Sometimes the iPod will resume from the last point; sometimes the Navi will display "iPod not connected" and I have to manually disconnect and reconnect the iPod to get it to work. I have not yet figured out the pattern of then this happens.

Stupid question. Does the compact flash drive take the memory cards that go in the cameras? Slap me silly!

LOL...it depends on your camera! I can say that I've taken a compact flash card out of a cisco router and used it (even if it was only 256MB!!!)

Yes, if the camera uses a CF card. These days cameras that use CF cards are mainly higher end digital SLRs. Most other cameras are using the smaller format SD card. Given the popularity - and small size - of the SD card format, I was very surprise Nissan chose Compact Flash as a memory media type. I have a couple of extra SD cards lying around, but no CF cards.
