De-Badging

Has anyone de-badged their ride??? I have an annoying dealer badge placed in a crappy spot. I'd also like to remove the Nissan emblem if possible. Is it a huge pain in the ****??

The Nissan badge you shouldn't remove, it is pronged/screwed in and if you remove it you will have 2 ugly holes there, lots of us removed out MAXIMA badge, there are many options, just pull them off, use some type of heat source (blow dryer or sun or heat gun), then pull them off and use 'goo b gone' to get the leftover glue residue off, the most important part is taking off the glue I think, you can scratch up the paint if your using something dirty or not folding the micro fiber towel correctly and using clean sides each time

Wrong, I took off all badges and it is smooth as a baby's bottom. The nissan emblem is simply stuck on like the Maxima one. No holes, no prongs, just adhesive. I got most of the adhesive off with a 3M wheel, but there was still annoying residue left over. I tried goo gone, bug and tar remover, and goo gone adhesive remover and nothing got it off. I finally gave up and took it to my body shop and they used their solvent and it was nice and clean in 2 seconds.

I took off the Maxima and Nissan emblem the day after I took delivery, I do it on all my cars. One trick is to take some fishing line and use it to kind of cut off the emblems( you place the line at top and kind of saw with it behind the emblem, this takes off about half the black tape. The rest I just rubbed off with my finger and used a littel adhesive remover. Took about 15 minutes total. I just need to find a nice front grill now. A lot of people asked me what kind of car is that, it's kind of fun.
The sooner you debadge the easier it is to take off any residue.

Use dental floss and a blow dryer to heat it up. Run the floss slowely under the preheated badge until its off, after that use goof off or 3M remover to take the adhesive off.

Fishing line works well, too, if you have it.

Forgive my curiosity Annino, but why did you de-badge but leave the dealers license frame (or did I misread it?)

Haha, good catch. I can honestly say that I completely forgot about those. Yes you read correctly, big white letters "Nissan of Norwich". Thanks to you I will be ordering new ones this week.

Oof. I'm not digging the de-badged look. Looks out-of-balance, like something significant is missing.

I agree. I can see why people do it. I myself have thought about it purely because I believe that no matter how you look at the Maxima letters they always look crooked!

I personally don't like advertising for the dealer (unless I've been with them for a while and can vouchsafe their conduct) so I'm all for getting rid of the dealership decals....I don't mind the Maxima badge (OK, I'm kind of proud of that one!!!)

But I do admit, it looks pretty clean without the extra "makeup" on it.

I don't think its a good idea in terms of resale to debadge. But thats just me.

I personally, don't like the look of the Nissan badge, just looks kinda cheap to me. I wish, I could take it off of the front without having to replace the whole grill. I do like the Maxima logo though, I'm thinking of reapplying the logo down on the bumper, centered under the plate.

Debadging will slightly reduce the trade-in value with most dealers, because most dealers feel they need to add the missing stuff back before resale.

Yes, ANNINO's car looks naked with nothing left on the rear, but a nice spoiler will help with that.

MaxLoverAz's girl friend is correct about the bare rear now looking 'large', but that is partly because the photo was taken from just three feet above the ground. From that angle, my 6th gen would have looked like the Hindenburg blimp. When viewed from a standing position, the rear of this '09 looks trim, with or without the badges.

As soon as I arrived home from the dealership with my car, I took the license frame off and painted it solid black. The dealer's letters can only be seen if you stand very near the car, bend over and look closely.

Because of the shape of the rear end in this car, no matter how the 'MAXIMA' letters are positioned on the trunk, they will look crooked from some angles.

Debadging is something that some folks like, while others don't. Then there are those who prefer to ADD badging, such as an 'SV', or even a '3.5 SV' on the right side to balance the 'MAXIMA' on the left. I personally feel both these approaches are probably symptoms of a natural desire to have something different about our car. After all, who likes to feel like just another nondescript member of the herd? As an example, I am trying to decide whether to debadge or add an 'SV'. Just something to give me a whisper of individuality.

I thought about that before I took the emblems off, it is a decent point to consider. From courtesyparts.com (that's as far as my research went) you can get all the emblems for under $20 I believe, so it was worth it to me for getting the look I want. I can buy them and reaffix them if the time comes that I want to trade it in.

Light - I agree about the spoiler, and I CANNOT wait to get mine put on. It's been 4 months in the making! I will post more pics later this week when (hopefully) the spoiler is on. I will also take the shot standing up rather than kneeling so my a** doesn't look so fat

Hahaha good one. that's not how I usually park..... I was in the empty end and was just taking pictures.

Yes the brake-light works. With the spoiler 'kit' it comes with the spoiler, stiffer trunk shocks, wiring harness, gaskets, and a rear deck brake light delete panel. Where the old 3rd brake light was is now a carpeted flat panel covering up the hole.

I didn't, the body shop that screwed up my STILLEN wings ordered all the parts and did it all for free. You would have to order them all from the parts catalog I guess. You can prob find some good prices online, or just shop around at dealerships. I know some people got it put on for like $350 at their Nissan dealership, which when you price out all the parts is an absolute steal.
