K&N INTAKE FOR '09 MAX??????

My initial post was about a K&N CAI I found on ebay for the '09 Maxima, I was skeptical since I hadn't hear anything about it on the Org. I did some research and look what I found on K&N's site! +13.25 HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So has anyone actually used one of these? Also how often and how much of a hassle is it to re-oil these?

This is cool but the R2C intake is gonna be reeeediculous. I am DEF waiting for that one to come out. The wait will be well worth it.

That car dyno'd 204 whp stock with 16k miles???? Thats a huge drivetrain loss or something aint right. None the less, nice hp gains.

Yes it's been stated by many that the dyno results are inconclusive to go by with the CVT. I would be hesitant to believe any of the K&N dyno numbers or any other dyno numbers with this powertrain.

The best anyone could do at this point is purchase all of the available intakes and test all on the same dyno with the exact same test procedures and conditions in order to really get an idea on who has the best performance. Just not practical unfortunately.

At this point people are making good guesses and going by looks...

while you guys are waiting I'll be driving around SO Cal with the K&N intake. Ordered it yesterday and it showed up today.
Looking at the dino chart it looks like the max HP gain was caught at one moment and it showed a 13HP at that point....not really at 13HP gain over the whole rpm range and I don't think it's a 13HP gain over the stock 290hp but just the max gain at one point...did I make sence?
anyways...if the R2C system shows a much bigger gain, might have to get that one to replace the K&N...

I think that even if the R2C system has similar gains, it will still be worth it for the dry filter alone. To clean it all you do is blow it out with an air gun. No oiling or anything like that. I can't wait. Its good to see more companies coming out with products. Tell us how you like it once you get it.

Got it on and so far so good.
One thing I don't like and I guess if you go to something like this, its what you asked for...Its LOUD!
I do like hearing the exhaust when you get on it, but this gives you alot of sound just getting on it a little. Might take it off till I get an exhaust on, that way I will have more sound comming from the rear of the car then the front.
Seems like the car has more power, but it could be the sound making me feel like its got more....

i just realized that the k&n intake is priced alot more than stillens 320 vs 280, here i was thinking k&n's pricing would be alot cheaper.

CVT's hard to dyno =) The engine is sure to dyno 290 crank as it would be illegal for Nissan to do otherwise.

I was looking into the K&N and I wasn't overly impressed. No doubt a K&N is better than a stock filter but what is the real advantage of the intake over just replacing OEM with a K&N filter?

Looking at the install pick on the K&N site it doesn't look like the thing seals very well at all. The original cold air tube just sits close to the cone filter not sealing anything at all. The whole thing doesn't look like it seals out engine air at all. It looks as if you would pull more hot engine air in than cold oustide air.
It seems like they didn't spend much time to make a cold or just for the 7th gen and just made one model they already had fit in the space of the oem air box. But this is all just what I see from their install picks so don't take my word as the gospel now.

I wanted something extra for the max cause i used to have an acura rsx and wanted a little more sporty feel so i got this. I paid $262 + $10 handling fee = $272 total. probably wouldn't buy it if it was over $300. I would say it's more like a short ram intake than a cold air, the pipe is real short, i never installed an intake before so i can't really get technical with you lol. I let my friend install it, he's a mechanic i would say it is slightly tricky because of the mounting brackets that come with it but nothing you can't do with the right tools. It was about a 30-40 minute install for him. I don't think i can get you video because my phone doesn't have it but i will take some pics later. The sound is comparable to a 350z now IMO (everyone has their own opinion!), not overpowering but sounds nice when you're gasing it!

So according to their dyno chart, we're putting nearly 250 to the wheels?? That is assuming that they didn't dyno the engine by itself when they recorded this measurements.

I think that looks really nice. I like the short pipe and clean look. Very impressed.

I just found the 7th gen set up for $236 so I may be ordering soon.

I know this has been said many times... but I advise you all to hold out and get the R2C intake. Alpha is going to get the prototype test fitted next week...
