$1000 to spend on mods. Need advice please!

I just bought a black S and have $1000 to start modding. I have 20% tint and the factory spoiler as of now but cant decide what to do first with the $1000. I need some advice. here is what I am wanting to do.

Stillen roof wing
Blue leds for all interior bulbs
Tint tails (basically as dark as possible) and light tins on heads.
lowering springs
Air intake
Exhaust - dont like any that are out there yet.
Blue HID headlights
Grill - this is my biggest decison. i was gonna get the EandG heavy mesh but i feel like its a lil cheesy and think that something better will come out in the future.

So if you had a grand what would you do first? Anythn i did not mention that you would recommend is cool too. thanks in advance.

  • Well to start the Stillen Roof Wing is over priced.. I bought one off of ebay for 140$ painted and am waiting on it as we speak so I would wait till you see my pictures to figure out which one you want.
  • The Blue LEDS I would say would be the first thing that would be cheap to do but yet a nice touch. I did a swap of all my leds and I got them off of ebay and they actually were better than the ones that were in the store.
  • for an intake I would wait for R2C's they are coming out with one where the filter does not need to be oiled but I am not sure on the final price.
  • Lowering springs would be a good idea and since you only have $1000 to spend then I would say get the Eibach's or the H&R springs. But if you live somewhere where it snows then that might not be a good choice for you and coilovers probaly will be better.
  • For the tail light and headlight tinet I would wait on thoes. Someone on the forums went to go and get a quote and they wanted 100 something just for the tails I believe. I have been talking to bluebat mobile ( bluebatmobile.net ) and he finally got a car to do R&D on and we should be seeing a lot of overlays out from him within the month
  • Exhaust: everyone is trying to get catman I believe to come out with one and I am sure that if they do that is going to be the best one on the market
  • I actually like how the E&G Heavy Mesh grill looks but to each his own I guess.
  • if your going to upgrade your HID's I wouldent go higher than 8K other wise you can't see much. Remember the lower the K rating the more you see the higher the K the less you see.

Good Luck To You... Post some pix of your ride when you get a chance.

Not a problem and don't worry ima post pix of all the angles...

Also FYI you might want to invest in a Front Strut Tower Bar either Stillen or Raceingline Performance (I have this one). A Rear sway bar may also be a good idea but Stillen at the moment is the only one that has one and it is non adjustable. Now I am not at the liberty to say at the moment but there is going to be another one coming out that is going to be stronger than the Stillen one and WILL BE ADJUSTABLE. So not sure if you'd like to wait for that to come out. If you don't want that one I can sell you my Stillen one only has about 1000K uses on in probably less and is so great. The car handles so much better with both those additions.

I've had my car for 3 days and so far I've done the interior LEDs (white for the map & rear passenger & blue in the doors and footwells $70). Looking to go get tints tomorrow.

After the window tints, I think my $1000 would be on new tires (I'd say wheels too but $1000 doesn't go as far as it used to!) Not saying the Goodyear's are bad (after all I do have 45K on them so far so if they were terrible they would have been off way before now) but I think a good set of Michelins would be a better fit for this and probably the best "value" addition I can think of for my Max.

Two questions for your questions. What do you mean by too cold for eibach springs? Why would you make a topic about tail tints when you you asked it here? Also, tail tints has been covered. Search is your friend.

Read the post above. I was told by someone on this forum that if you are in an area where it snows you may need coilovers. I was looking for a second opinion and some feedback on that.

Regarding tints:
1. Posted a seperate post so more people would see it and i would get more specific feedback. Did not see any harm in doing so.

2. used search and none of the tailight tint posts had the answers I was looking for. I actually kind of asked for opinions so i am not sure other posts would offer any help.

Now i have a question for you. Why would you reply to this thread questioning the way i posted. You did not offer any useful info regarding my questions. No big deal, just a little strange.

No need to get snippy. I was getting you to elaborate on your cold spring issue because it didn't make sense. Adjustable coilovers would be what you are looking for so you can adjust to height to account for snow clearance. Springs just stay in one spot. I had you elaborate on that because it seemed as though you were concerned with your springs getting cold. As for the the second one, posting in one specific spot will help you get a better answer rather then having two seperate conversations going. Honestly, if you want help from us then help us out.

I was not being snippy just a little defensive. Sorry no worries. I appreciate your help. I was already concerned with clearance in my driveway so do you mean to say that with coilovers i can adjust the height. you know somewhere lower then it is now but not so low that it will scrape.

I imagine they are more expensive?

I live in CT and I got the Eibach's. It's only a 1.4" drop, its nothing serious. Ive only had one instance where I bottomed out, and that was an extreme case. I have not had any issues other than that one time. I really am not worried about snow. The car is lowered, but by no means is it 'slammed'. If you want to shell out the cash for coilovers go for it, but I am sticking with springs. Also, if you are in an area that is good about plowing you shouldn't have to worry about a thing. There was one storm last season that could have been a problem if my car had been lowered then. This year I will have some nasty snow tires and if there is a time that I will be plowing with my bumper, I expect a check from the DPW for helping out with snow removal. haha.

coilovers will run you well over 1000 , stick with the springs for now youll like the way they look and be very satisfied like many of the members here are

pssh. I would do winter tires.

on steel rims.

not really a mod, but it is the BEST upgrade you can make if you get any amount of snowfall or temps below 40.

Just my $0.02

To not draw a lot of attention to your car, I like to keep it close to stock looking from the outside. Thieves skip by "boring" ....

$30 - wheel locks
$219 - stillen strut brace
$166 - stillen sway bar
$60 - "super white" LED replacement (interior and license plate)
$400 - powdercoat the stock wheels (dark grey or black) (no clue on price)
$125 - gas to get to meets
------------
$1000

When you say take off the precats what do you mean? What does that do? Also does that present any major issues with warranty? I know the warranty is only affected if the mod creates the issue but i do not know what taking the precats off does? Thanks
