Remote start?

Does anybody have a remote start on their 7th gen? If so does it interfere with the keyless entry/start or any other features? Thanks in advance!

I always wondered why Nissan did not go ahead and put an Autostart on this car. The one option I have never had with any other car.

I have a remote start VIPER 5901 alarm system installed on my max and it does not interfere with any of the other intelligent key features whatsoever. It was expensive to get installed and took them two days but in the end was totally worth when i lived in Missouri and the winters cold my car was already warm when I got to her and here now in San Antonio when it's blazing hot my baby is nice and cool when I get to her. I have some YouTube videos with maxima and the alarm check it out!

I am thinking about the new viper smart start which uses the iphone to start and heat/cool car, but also thinking there are maybe much cheaper options.

So how much did you pay for your install? I was quote under $700 for a 5901 installed & full day to install.

Got couple of questions on your remote start:

1) Do you have to deactivate the alarm before using the intelligent key unlock features?

2) Do you need to turn off the remote start before driving off? Or can you get in the car put it in gear and drive off?

Normally when you push the brakes on a remote started car that usually turns off the car. And with the max you have to push the brakes and the start button to start the car; I was wondering how that actually worked.

I think that I posted this for you on the NYCMaximas.org web site but I'll post it here for everyone as well.

I had my Remote Start worked into the deal when I bought the car through the dealership. It dosn't effect any of the normal operations of the key fob nor the push button start.

This is what was installed in my car by the dealership ASTRO START

I'd say the only downfall about this product is that once you remote start when you get in the car like you usually do you have to step on the break to turn the car on but when you step on the break when the car is remote started you have to step on the brake then take your foot off then the remote start shuts off and then you have to go through the normal process of stepping on the break and pushing the button to start your car. I wish that you could just get in the car and push the button and it just goes.

That thing looks awesome.. The question is will it still work with the pushbutton start feature feature in our cars or is it going to get in the way of how it works?

How much did you pay for it complete with labor? I'm planning to get a 2010 Maxima soon and was pondering how a remote start could be properly installed in a car like this with the intelligent key. Seems like it may be complicated, considering how the car would not start without stepping on the brake pedal so I'm thinking they're gonna have to install some kind of bypass for that.

If they incorporated a security system feature on the app where it could send you an push notification if someone hits your car or something and when you pull it up on the screen shows you whats going on like it does on the 2way pages today then I would jump for this in a heart beat.

I am most interested in the Viper Smartstart with the iPhone compatibility. Please let us know what Viper has to say about its technology possibly impacting the Maxima's keyless entry and push start.

Winter is fast approaching and I am looking at a remote start to combat against sitting in a cold car while waiting for the engine to warm up.

I had mine installed by the dealer here on LI. It is an Audiovox unit that is integrated with the smart key. I think that it was around $500 installed.

Viper SmartStart or any other remote start will NOT affect keyless entry/push start in any way. You will be able to retain full functionality with your OEM keyfob.

So your saying when I remote start the car and the car is started and armed. I can walk up to the car and push the door button to unlock the car without the panic setting off?

Also with the car remote started I can just get into the car and drive off? Any steps involved?

Depends if you get remote start only or alarm/remote start - though I'm not sure of the specifics because I haven't yet installed a RS on a car with push button/intelligent key.

Post or search for your question in the audio/electronics forum where it belongs, I'm sure someone will be able to answer it.

I posted here because choice already has the alarm/starter I want, but hasn't replied back yet.

i just had nissan install a remote start on my 09. has anyone else had this done? the remote start is by Prestige. it works fine but when you get to the car and unlock it, the engine shuts off and u have to start it again normally when you get inside. i was told this is because of the push button start. is this true or was it installed incorrectly?

Here is my above post if you didn't already read it http://forums.maxima.org/7252862-post8.html

All remote starters are different and if you don't have the same options like I have then I would assume that the dealership didn't do their research before looking for a starter to put in your car and probably took the cheap way out instead of spending the appropriate money to make sure the the product was a perfect fit for the functions of the car.

When I had my remote start installed (Viper 5901) on my Maxima I had to use a bypass module from Idatalink. The module will trick the car into thinking that there is an intelli key inside. The good thing about the module is that once you remote start the car and get in, all you do is step on the brake pedal and the car will automatically take over. You do not have to restart the car. I believe all other modules out there will turn the car off once the brake is stepped on. When the car is remote started the alarm is still armed. Nobody can enter the car by pushing the button on the door handle. If somebody sets off the alarm, the car will turn off and page me. This is by far the best module out there.

I'm not sure if it will void the warranty. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to install it. You will have to reverse everything that Nissan did. There is also a wiring diagram on the Idatalink website. I don't know what module Nissan used for your car, but I know the Idatalink one will have to be wired into your BCM under the dashboard. They will have to splice some wires to get it installed. It is not an easy install. I don't recommend doing it if you are not highly trained. It took my install guy a whole 3 days to install it, but I had my entire system ripped out and replaced too though. I believe he said he worked one full day on the alarm part. Hope that helps!

Having a remote start installed by a professional authorized installer will NOT void your warranty.

I just had a Python 592 remote start/ alarm installed (same as Viper 5902 and made by the same company) the installer told me initially that it would shut off once i get in the car and hit the brake AND it did.... and to tell you the truth I was kind of annoyed!

Solution: DONT PUSH BRAKE. Get in your car and press your push button twice and when your Ignition is on the ON position.... THEN you can push the brake pedal, throw it in gear and drive off....I saw a post about an installer having a car for 3 days or something and rewiring... and I thought that was alittle excessive IMO..... I'm totally happy with it and besides, if you were in a different car with a keyed ignition you would have to rotate the key to the ON position as anyways...... I asked about the bypass module he used and he said that it was a module made by Directed Electonics (Viper, Python,Clifford and like 8 others).... I hope this help

Sorry guys have not followed up on this thread in a while but I think that most of your questions have already been answered by other members......

"NO" My Viper alarm system does not interfere with my OEM push to start system....BUT if the system is armed and I come up to my MAX and try to unlock the vehicle and open the door with the vehicle on or off it will sound the alarm once I open any door on the MAX. I rarely use that option anymore now anyway because always disarm my alarm before I get in which unlocks the door automaticly. Now I have forgot on a few occasions with my hands full and hit the door button and opened the door only for the alarm to go off ......oh well

SO hopefully this answers your questions like others I used the Idatalink module which made it possible to intergrate the VIPER system into my MAX. I did not have to lose a key FOB or do anything else crazy!!!

Wow, ok ...

NO, adding a remote start when installed properly will not interfere or alter your push start.

NO, Nissan Cannot void your warranty for having it done elsewhere. This is a FEDERAL law.

The DSM100 (iPhone app associated module) is not just a stand alone. You either need the fully integrated unit or newer platform based DEI unit already installed. This is LE, LC3, HD platforms only.

For the fellas that have the brake shutting the car down and then restarting, especially the one that mentioned others were done wrong and his is right. INCORRECT. This method still leaves your car wide open for theft. The vehicle should shut down upon opening the door. It's the brake shutdown installed vehicles that had an installer take a short cut. Hood should be tied with door trigger - open the door and the car shuts down. Restart and drive. Otherwise your car is open to potential thieves. This does not only apply to Nissan, but others as well.

Okay just curious why you think the brake shutdown leaves your vehicle open to theft? When you remote start the car your alarm is still armed. If anyone tried to get into the car the alarm would trigger and the remote start shuts down. By any chance if they were to get into the car without triggering the alarm once they stepped on the break the car would shut down.

This is ASSuming you have a alarm/remote start hybrid. Also ASSUming they set off the alarm.

They get in and cut the brake wire. Simple enough and any potential thief could easily know this.

ASSuming they did all that they still have to break the ignition to unlock the steering lock which requires quite enough force to set off the alarm.

Ok, roll your eyes. What do I know? I have only been doing this (properly) as a profession for about 2 decades ..

Of course read what you want to read ... theyre gonna set off the alarm anyway ? Did I not mention this is IF it has an alarm ? Quite hard to do when it doesnt exist, no ? Secondly, do you really think it takes that much force ? Ok, you win. Get it done, bring it by. If I can leave with your car (no more than 20 feet or so is needed), then you will sign it over ?

first of all if you had read my post you would have realized I have been asking about the Viper 5901 which is a starter/alarm (you should already know this). It doesn't matter how long you been doing this if you can't read/answer a simple question; all I asked is why do you think doing the brake shutdown is a short cut? I know alot of pro installers that have been doing this for a long time, and all of them do the brake shutdown. Unfortunately I have moved and don't have all the same resources/hookups I did in the past to get this job done.

Also if you really think you could get into my car with the the car started and armed and take off with it within the 10 mins I warm her up. I would love to see that happen, shoot if you got away with it you could have the damn car. 0 Down 0% interest 60months (only had it for a month), just take over the payments

I read Exactly which unit you were talking about, however you are not the only one on this public forum. Generalizing answers more questions quicker.

I know alot of 'pro installers ' as well. Hell it is my job to know them. By the same token doing something for a long time does not mean you are doing it correctly all along. I unfortunately know many that take shortcuts as well.

Using the brake method also has your car reading two powered keys everytime you take over. I hope for you and others this will not lead to further problems (lost key code, dealer reset), but it is a known problem with this method. Hence the reason the directions are clean cut to Not do it this way. Again I reiterate - doing it for a long time, does not equate to doing it properly.

I'm sorry that your taking offense to my thoughts of your installers method, but it simply is not the correct procedure.

You mean I cant just keep it and you finish paying ?

pearl96max,

my friend is able to install the viper 5901 or 5902 or capatible remote starters. he did my friends Lexus is250 with push button start. HE installed the unit so when u start the car remotely the doors lock, you then unlock the doors with the clicker get in the car and have about 1 minute to put foot on brake and put into gear and go b4 car shuts down..

he said he can also do this method on my 09 maxima..i told him i did not want to have to remote start the car, then get in , hit the brake-car shuts off and then restart and go.. he said NOPE i can set it up like the Lexus..u just remote start it , unlock doors, get in ,put foot on brake pedal and go . NO RESTARTING....

my question is ..in your opinion is this the correct way to wire a remote starter..

thanks...

In my opinion, the instructions, the techs and the designers of the bypass - no.

The vehicle will still read two keys every time your entering the car. "Well my wife and I both keep our keys on us when we get in the car." It Can still reset itself due to just that, but not usually (has happened though). Let's try not to play the 'try to force it reset ' game.
