Mine doesn't turn off when i open the door. Only when i press the brake does the remote start disengage. Car never shuts off.

I am new to the forum having just bought a 2012 Maxima SV Sport which is my third Maxima previously owning a 97 Sport and 03 SE. I traded in an 07 Infiniti G35x so still getting used to how much bigger the Max is and having front wheel drive again.

I am interested in getting Viper Smart Start installed so I read through this thread and stopped by Best Buy during my lunch break today and figured I would pass along some information. I am only interested in remote start and not the security system so I asked about the lowest model which is the VSS3000 and was quoted a total of around $500

Normally I would prefer to have something like this done somewhere else but I have a few Best Buy gift cards to use so why not. Unfortunately this particular store is backed up for installs until mid March so Ill have to check a couple other stores.

Is there a better one from Viper for just remote start?

The only difference Ive been able to find between the 3000 and 4000 is that the 4000 comes with a remote

its just that the VSS systems in general are a significantly watered down version of the 5901/5902. compare it to the reviews of the 5901/5902 and you'll see what i mean.

here's Amazon's reviews for a start.

I read some of those in addition to the ones on Best Buys site and most say the same thing. One positive to take from all them is most are not recent and from 2010 and there have been some updates to the app since so maybe they worked some bugs out.

I also read a lot of the problems people might have been having is not letting the app connect before attempting to start their car.

Im just looking into this and wanted a ballpark figure of what the total cost would be. I have no interest in adding a security system or paying for one I dont plan to use so if I cant go with one of the VSS systems Ill prob just go with a more basic setup

Ill update as I go through this. Thanks for the info

I had the following installed:

Avital 4113 remote start - $289
Viper Smart start - $189

The remote start came with remotes but I keep them in the house and only use them when I am at home. Also, the installers took all day and gave me $20 discount. Other shops in my area wanted $400 for just the remote start because of the push button.

Everywhere I've checked, they say the car will shut off when you get in and you have to restart the car. They say it has to be like that as a safety feature to keep the car from being stolen. I don't see why the car couldn't just shut off unless it recognizes you entered with the key fob. I don't want to have to restart the car.
