I have remote start on my wifes max and it works off the factory remote and you can unlock the doors and enter the car. You just cant hit the brake. If you want to start it you need to press the start button 3 times and then it overrides and allows you to press the brake and shift gears. I am debating which one to get for mine since I want range dont want aftermarket remote etc. Any suggestions?

Im just disappointed that for a car with all these crazy features they use the same basic a$$ starter, thought I would get something a little better, (but it was free)...When I open the door the car does not shut off, if I want it to shut off I just have to push the break. If I don't want it to shut off I have to hit the start/stop button 2 times until ON is lit on the ignition and then press the break and Im good to go, but when I do this the KEY light on the dash stays lit.

I ended up getting the NUSTART remote start installed on mine. Its works great and the range is beyond what I need. I will say that I was not happy with the extra fob but then when I hold the button down it blinks and when it stops the car is on. With the wifes its a guessing game since you get no visual confirmation unless you can see the car.

5/5/10 If you press the start button the car 2 times without the brake the car should show no warning lights (KEY). I tried mine today and it works perfect no codes.

I got a remote starter installed in my 01 Maxima GLE two years ago. It is really cool. No freezing and ice-shoveling in winter and no sweating in summer. :-)

I had the Directed Electronics remote start installed 2 weeks ago. Integrated in key fob. lock 3x to engage, enter vehicle normally, press start 2x to get in "ON" position. operate as normal.

all OEM functionality remains intact.

normal remote starts go for about 250.00, push button cars push that to about 400.00

Well monday had my 5301 remote start installed. Total cost $750 installed.Very happy. All works well.Had to call them back because the fob kept going off when in my pocket.I told them I tried to lock the keypad but to no avail. They had to call up DEI and BINGO it works. Now no more mistake buttons go off.If you hit a button you just get an errer signal. To unlock your fob you just press F button,OPEN button then what ever funtion button you want.Start ,open lock Etc.After you unlock you have 60 sec.to do whatever you want and then the pad automatically locks again until you open it again. So in a nutshell it takes three presses to activate.IHere is the seqence to lock keypad:
1. Hold F button for a solid 12 sec.wait for orange lite.
2.Hit unlock button
1 beep means locked 2 bbeeps means unlocked
3.Push F button and wait till light shuts off.
4.Wait 60 secs. then test.
hit F button then hit ULOCK button then hit whatever button you want.60 secs later your keypad will auto lock.etc.
HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE!!!

ANNINO, do you still have the smartstart? If so, have you downloaded the 2.0 app? Just wondering if the 2way works the way they say it does, etc.

The kit also came with a standard key fob dongle thing (start, lock, unlock, trunk, etc.) but for me I like my keychain uncluttered and leave that in the car in case I find myself in an area with limited 3G coverage.

For parts, they charged me an additional $240 (incl. tax and everything) for various relays and computer units. Like I said, if it weren't a gift I never would have sprung for it... topped out at about $740 total.

I gotta say though, so far it has been well worth the money. I would frequently be out of range with a typical system, and with the SmartStart you never have to worry. I can start, unlock, pop the trunk, etc. from a limitless distance.
Just took a Smart Start out of a 2005 Max to put in wife's 2010. After 5 hours in shop and they're calling Viper, they gave up. Could not get car to start. They handed me our Smart Start module and said we'll call you when Viper figures out problem. Now I have tire pressure warning light and can't set clock.

Was your install flawless?

I was just wondering, what is this "F" button you mentioned? I couldn't map it to any of 4 buttons on the fob - Open, Close, Trunk or Panic...

See, in Minnesota where I live it not the laziness issue, it's more "my butt is frozen to a leather" issue...

I don't mean the "remote start" part but the one where the car shuts off for just a tick that we have to step on the brake and press the start button. I live in NJ where it does get cold too - but never having had a remote start - I could deal with going out to start the car - let it warm up - scrape of the snow then voila - in the car I go and drive off in the sun.

The technology today has given us so much convenience and we are neglecting to look at those because of one issue. I would love a remote start in my Max but for $750 for the Viper - I'll go out there myself and start it. It's part of owning a car.

By the way - I have danced in an '88 Corolla in the cold here in NJ - it's not fun but it's part of driving a car. Let's be happy that our Max have heated seats and steering wheel.

ETA: I agree with pearl about the security part of having to "re"start the car once you get in. I feel safer that way

I'm with you on the security part as well - seems only natural that car shuts down with the door open. Feel safe this way too.
As for the technology - I danced with my 91 maxima too. But like you said - let's be thankful for heated seats and a steering wheel. Next step of the evolution - remote start

Besides, have to come up with something for my wife's b-day...

Had Smart Start installed in wife's '10 Max. First day total failure. They called Viper for help and next day flawless install. Works great. Previously the module was in her 2005 Max. If you manually locked the door as you got out, then used iPhone to unlock the alarm was triggered. Not the case now, works as you would expect.

Also since when is an alarm not able to be bypassed? It happens all the time. The car should not be running after opening the door.
If you have the swap out your current bypass kit and use the i-datalink bypass kit then you dont have to have the car turn off when opening the door. Yours shuts off due to the key take over process and by shutting off the car the car wont see 2 key fob signals.I also see that some of the newer nissans have nissan security screws holding the bcm in place behind the cluster. that sucks to access at times.

If you have a push start then I would not go for that price! You will get what you pay for.Lots of headaches my friend.

Example,This is what I put in mine and the parts alone cost me $242.And this bypass I have found to be the best and most reliable used curerently. And i dont have it shut down when the door is opened. The key take over is sensed when the door is open and the bypass tells the immobilizer its ok.Unlike the other units people are using it shuts the car down when the door is opened. I didnt like that idea and went this route. heres a pic of the parts i used.

I like this emblem on the unit.May have to find a place to stick it.lol

I am seriously considering the viper remote start system that is compatible with the I-phone. I have some concerns after viewing these issues on remote start systems lol. It seems the wiring diagrams are not the most compatiable/user friendly, and there are alot of mixed problems. I might stay away from viper and go to a local Nissan dealer that has installed a remote start in the 7th gen's, and just go with a basic remote starter. That seems to be what worked best. I was amazed at the ipone interface with the viper. Do you guys think i should stay away::?

Honestly Directed Electronics (makers of viper) is one of the best alarms on the market, I haven't heard of many problems concerning the 7th gen maximas if installed correctly. If you decide going to the dealer, they will be using an aftermarket system as well. Also remote range might come into play as well, viper has up to 1 mile range, some other units only have upto 1500ft.

I have had my viper 5901 in over a year and havent had any problems, my cousin owns a a shop that installed it!

I think the viper smart start would work if there was clear guidance, I need to find a local installer who is familiar with the 7th gen and this type of remote start interface application! I'm worried as most ppl are, that some body is going to jack sum stuff up in a new 40,000 $ car! Is there a sticky on the viper install on 7th gen's?

I had my Remote Start worked into the deal when I bought the car through the dealership. It dosn't effect any of the normal operations of the key fob nor the push button start.

This is what was installed in my car by the dealership ASTRO START

I'd say the only downfall about this product is that once you remote start when you get in the car like you usually do you have to step on the break to turn the car on but when you step on the break when the car is remote started you have to step on the brake then take your foot off then the remote start shuts off and then you have to go through the normal process of stepping on the break and pushing the button to start your car. I wish that you could just get in the car and push the button and it just goes.

That thing looks awesome.. The question is will it still work with the pushbutton start feature feature in our cars or is it going to get in the way of how it works?
when u remote start your car, and then u get in while its running, try pushing the start button on the dash board 2x before touching the break or anything else.......thats how mine works

I have just started this task with my friends at a custom shop and I must say that this alarm is a pain in the A$$. I have an 2011 Maxima 3.5SV and the push start is killing us. The wiring diagram from directed is not correct for the harness. Will be on it again on Monday. Any tips and tricks to this madness would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Juggernaut...did u install it yourself or it was done in a shop in Jersey? I'm very sceptical for people to start cutting wires on this car..if you don't mine shoot me or post some info on alarm and price. Thx

i got my remote starter from audio.vox.com(alarm systems) and had it as part of my vehicle purchase. It was installed by the car dealer along with the bypass system...i never have had a remote starter before with any of my previous vehicles and personally don't mind getting in the car, stepping on the brakes and re-starting the car. The fact that I can start it from my apartment is cool enough for me...and since i take public transportation most days of the week i use the remote starter in the morning while i'm waiting for the bus, so that the oil doesn't sit for too long in that tank with this cold weather we've been experiencing here in NYC.

Such a big job and no write-up? I would love to make it a spring project. How much was your overall cost for the entire system?

Will this remote start work with 2010 Max SV

I've looked for products for my car, and it showed this thing, that allows to start the car with my nissan key. Its only $80, and I know a mechanic who can install it for me cheaply, I was wondering if anyone tried this or knows if this would work. I want a remote start option, but so far everyone is telling me such a thing would cost $500. Would appreciate any advice, Thanks.

P.S. There is a link on the page with a manual to the product on the middle left side.
