Considering Purchase
Hello;
New here. Can't start a new thread. Thinking of purchasing a Maxima with Premium and Nav package (loaded). Couple of niggles, I would value any feedback.
1. In Canada, this configuration lists for approximately $46,500 (including destination). If you work off list, by the time you add taxes and "extra" dealship charges the cost is $53,500. Now I know negotiation is expected, but you can't get the same deals in Canada that you can Stateside. Seems like a lot for a Nissan.
2. The stereo system is not impressive .... is there any way to upgrade the stock unit (better speakers, amp, whatever).
Thx.

I would really hate to see anyone paying much more than invoice price for a Maxima. Most folks here on the ORG are able to get their dealer down to invoice or below. Invoice for the vehicle you described has to be below $40K in Canada (below $35K in the U.S.).
I realize you can't get quite as good a deal in Canada, and that is why one or two Canadians here on the ORG actually came to the U.S. to buy their Maxima, then paid massive import/excise fees to get it into Canada. Seems unfair Canadians get treated so badly.
I honestly feel that, even in Canada, you should be able to get your loaded Maxima for not much over $40K. Have you tried the big Toronto dealers? But then Canadian dealers have never had a reputation for giving good deals. Consider trying several dealers via the internet. Most dealers have internet managers.
As for the speakers, I am happy with the Bose. Others here will be glad to tell you about what speakers they changed to and why.
I paid 34800, financed for 60 months @ 0.9 interest. You also get the sales tax back with President Obamas tax breaks in the states. Sport, Nav, Mudguards and mats, I waited 2 months to order. Probally can get a better deal once they are on the lots but there is minimal like mine in the country.

for even thinking about paying $50k for a NissanStroll over to your local Lexus or Infiniti dealership and walk away happier
I quite like the car but the price does seem to be pushing the boundary a little. For those who might be curious, go to www.nissan.ca and price one out. In Canada, we generally pay from $5k-$12k more on MSRP than the US as the price of the car goes up.
I realize that with negotiation, I can get a better price, but where I live (Victoria) there is one Nissan/Infiniti dealership ... they will deal a little.
MSRP on a AWD G37 sedan (loaded) is $52,000 ... they will deal a little.
MSRP on a Lexus ES350 (Ultra Premium) with destination is almost $54,000, again one dealership and they won't deal ... pay list or walk.
MSRP on a Lincoln MKZ (loaded) is $52,900, again one dealership and they will deal a little.
Don't even bother with BMW or Mercedes unless you have serious disposable income.
Lots of choices and they all seem to be about $5k overpriced to me. Perhaps, I'll just keep my money in my pocket for now.

Of course my first tendency is to agree with your remark. But according to my Canadian friends, comparable Lexus and Infinity vehicles are both also over $50,000 in Canada, and don't have the fresh, aggressive styling or pizzaz of the 7th generation Maxima. I personally feel Canadians are getting royally reamed when it comes to purchasing these decent vehicles.

. Although $50k CAD MSRP seems to me to be a little off considering my 09 Sport was around $43k CAD MSRP, add the tech package and that would have been up to ~$46k CAD which means the Premium is $3k more then the sport which doesn't seem right.

taxes and dealership charges are applicable to anything i might purchase, my point was that as a "package" it gets very expensive.

Base Price on G37 is $37,990
Base Price on Maxima is $39,450
Base Price ES350 is $41,900
Base Price BMW 328i is $41,400
Looking at the FULLY LOADED models prices can be misleading....IMO first u should decide WHICH car u want and then option it out according to your needs...u will be happier with your purchase that way instead of deciding according to the price
BLACKNESS is right, in that we need to be comparing comparable vehicles. Only comparing prices on cars with essentially the same features makes good sense.
Base price of over $39 for a Maxima is REALLY tough sledding. That is over $9,000 more than base price for the same car in the U.S. Makes my heart hurt for my Canadian friends.

Indeed. The pricing is all relative, we just happen to be bleeding profusely through the nose while we do it

The taxes and dealer packs are what is pushing things to the $50K range in Canada.
I'm not a big fan of the G37, but the price BLACKNESS quoted for it looks good as compared with the other prices we are seeing here. Personally, I would still pay more and get the Maxima (which I LOVE), but those less into advanced styling might be very happy with the G37, which is a good car.
hmmm .... evidently, i'm not communicating very effectively.
all i said, is that in Canada the MSRP for the maxima in the configuration i want (premium + nav) along with a couple of small accessories and including freight is approximately $46,500. this is the same in every province, in every dealership across Canada. when you add in taxes, government charges and dealer documentation and "prep" the total cost is approximately $53,500 at list. when you look at it as a total package, it is not inexpensive and considerably more than a comparable configuration in the States.
obviously, i don't intend to pay list and at the "end of the day", will negotiate the best deal i can and either accept or reject it.
thx for your input.
