Oil filter debacle

Hi all,

I purchased my Max last September and it was a demo with approx 12,000 kms. Before picking up the car, the dealer performed an oil change with regular (dino) oil.

At around 16,500 km's, I decided to make the switch to Mobil 1 Synthetic , and did the oil change myself. To my surprise, when I removed the oil filter and compared to the new filter I picked from another dealership, I noticed that the old filter was about 40% shorter than the new one I picked up.

Model number of old filter: 15208-65F0C
Model number of new filter: 15208-9E000

So, I'm assuming that the dealership used the wrong filter for the oil change before I picked up the car. This does not make me or my Max happy, and I'm happy I changed the oil before the recommended interval. Any ideas what the draw-backs of using a smaller filter is?

As I understand it, all Nissans have the same filter interface (threads & gasket circle dia.). There are two filters, small and large. The Max comes with the small, but you can use the large unless there is interference.

The smaller one is standard, but many people "feel" better using the larger filter, including myself.

Both of the part numbers fit the car. The 15208-9E000 is the recommended filter for our cars. Check out the Fluids and Lubricants section under the Sticky "what oil and filter should I use?".

yeah the small one looks like a joke or something but that's what the parts dept will give u unless you specify "the big one, man".

live life large, so you don't have to live it twice
