Reverse Lights

Hello all,

A while back I decided to install some LED reverse lights into my tail lights and while they look cool they are just not bright enough for me to see compared to the stock halogen bulbs.

My question to all of you is for those of you that have LED reverse lights 1. what brand did you use, and 2. how is the visibility w/ them?

My second question is if you don't recommend LED's for reverse lights what would you recommend that would be brighter than the stock reverse lights and brighter than them as well.

New (1.06.10) - I did some looking around and this is what I found but I don't know how good they are going to be: PIAA W2 MINIATURE 18W XTREME WHITE, TWIN PACK what do you guys think of that product? Is there anything better that you would recommend?

Thank you all in advance.

Could you all Post some pics.

Now Are you using one set for both or 1 set for each (reverse, and turn)?

how did you get access to the back-up lights? when I open the trunk I don't see an access panel. did you just pull the siding off with your hands or did you have a special tool?

All u gotta do is remove the clips holding the cover in the trunk then there will be 3 metal screw things sticking out. Just us a wrench to take out the hex nuts. To get the headlight off all u gotta do is push (from the inside of trunk) the metal screw things toward you until your tail light slights out.

BE CAREFUL DOING SO. I'D YOU DONT HOLD YOUR HEADLIGHT AND LET IT FALL OR PULL/PUSH TO FAR THE WORES WILL RIP. MYSELF NOT MAXIMA.ORG ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR TRYING THIS ON YOUR OWN.

Kamber, did you end up using the PIAA lights suggested above? If so, do you like them? Any feed back appreciated. I'm thinking of upgrading mine soon, I have the monitor package so I'm wondering how much improvement i'll see backing out of my driveway etc..

Not to sabotage the thread... I assume by monitor package you mean the one with the color screen WITHOUT the nav. Are the A/C controls below the radio or below the screen? Been trying to figure this one out but no one seems to know the answer...

Yes, I have the color screen w/out the nav. Look below the radio controls you should have the dual climate control *****... when you change them the results will show on the color screen...

No I never went ahead and got those... I've been working and school so I probably wont get them until the summer if anything. I wanna make sure they still give off a blue led type color just brighter before I buy them anyways.

Sorry man

I wonder how long these Piaa bulbs will last . My old sylvania ultrastar headlights lasted like 6-7 months that's it for my previous car. It would be a pain in the rear to have to replace it all the time.

Separate note is it easy to replace license plate bulb and what model bulb is suggested

LED lights are not omni-directional. So the light doesn't cover as much area as the stock bulbs.

Check out the tutuorial here for steps to replace license plate bulbs. It takes about 15 minutes. I ordered the complete LED package from ledbulbz and they look great.

So, are you saying that replacing the stock "reverse lights" with LEDs might not offer the best results?

I'm looking for better performance from the "reverse lights", not better looks. The stock lights are way too dim IMO.
