Road Hazard Warranty & Lifetime Rotation/Balancing

was curious about this after getting the rotation yesterday at the dealership as part ofmy 7500 mile service...and realizing that it would have been $20.00.

I called Discount Tire this morning and with them I can get a road hazard warranty PLUS lifetime rotation/balancing for appx $130.

Is this a good deal? Sound like it to me...but not sure how the rest of you all are getting this done..I know one person uses them...

Have any of you invested in a road hazard warranty? How are you taking care of your rotation/balancing?

On my last two Maximas ('00 SE and '04 SL), once the original tires needed replacement, with each of these cars I bought a new set at Discount Tire, and opted for the lifetime rotation/ balance and road hazard warranty. I don't remember what I paid, and never had to use the road hazard warranty.

As to whether to do it with Discount Tire, that depends on the service at your particular facility. My son has a shop he likes better than the Discount Tire in his area (says they never seem to get his tires balanced perfectly), but I really like the Discount Tire nearest me.

I used to be sort of 'iffy' about these road hazard warranties, but with so many governments out of money and potholes going unfixed, they make more sense now than in the past.

Be aware Discount Tire is only in about half the states, and if you have a tire fail far away from a Discount Tire store, things might get a little tricky. Everyone will see this slightly differently, and you will have to weigh all factors, then decide.

I thought if you paid for a set of tires at DT, the lifetime road hazard and free balancing came with the set of tires for no charge. I've bought many sets of tires form them and I don't remember paying extra but I always get my tires rotated for free.

With my Discount Tire, if I buy the tires there, the rotation and balancing are free, but the road hazard warranty has cost me extra each time; I think it was around $6 per tire.

Of course Hptoniq is considering getting balancing/rotation/hazard warranty at Discount Tire for the OEM tires that came on her new Maxima. I have never done that, but probably should consider doing so.

Thanks Light...and you are exactly right....I wonder if it's a good investment...I guess it's kinda like insurance--it's good if I end up needing it huh?

My honest recommendation, buy the lifetime balance/rotation/road hazard. Great safety and peace of mind. It is worth the investment, trust me. Especially when you hear my story.

I have never liked to buy the road hazard warranty. But I hate myself for not doing so!

My story: So, I bought my 2010 19" rims with brand new tires. I had discount tire put them on. I bought the lifetime balance and rotation, but declined the road hazard. Well, guess what? I was the loser at the end. For just after 3 weeks, on this faithful day, I swapped cars with my wifey. She takes my car and hit a pot hole, tire is slashed by rim. Now, I need a new tire. Turn to discount tire and they say, sorry but had you purchased the road hazard, we would have replaced the tire for free. So, since I had not purchased, I bought new tire for $162!!! You know I was mad at myself when paying that much. They offered me to buy road hazard this time, I still declined!

Look at my pic below to see how I was driving around town in my car for 2 days. 3 tires 245/40/19 with one 245/45/18. 3 of my rims were the 19" 2010 wheels and my spare was the 18 OEM rim. I didn't feel much difference, but it looked odd and bothered me until I paid for the new tire and had it put on. Look at the pic below when I was riding with this setup.
