Anybody Else Crazy Enough to Wash Their Car Today?

Here it is, February 13th. Most of the country is covered in snow today but not here in sunny Florida. It might be in the 40's today but its still Saturday and its time to wash the car. Its days like this that I love being in Florida!

looks clean. haven't seen that color before.

Last time I washed my car, the water froze on the trunk lid before I could finish drying it.

The biggest thing to do in winter is use a pressure washer or whatever to clean out the wheel wells and other under-the-car areas to clean off all of the salt.

I also open the front doors and spray inside the door where the door meets the fender meets the frame.

edit - I have seen that color before. Lakeshore Slate I think. My grandfather's '08 M35x is that color. First time I've seen it on a Maxima though.

Not a cloud in the sky here south of Atlanta either. Perfect day. If you consider 23 degrees at 8AM and 5 inches of snow on the ground perfect.

We'll be using the truck today, thank you.

I dusted mine off today! If that counts, I keep it in the garage (take it out only on good days).

I pressure wash mine about twice a week right now. No use doing a nice hand detail on it, until all the snow has melted off and a hard rain has washed all the salt away. So far this winter we have had 64 inches of snow here in my small town in Virginia, since Dec 18. Here is my current webcam picture of the conditions outside.

i can gladly say I finally washed my baby today here in overcast and cool So Cal after 4 weeks of Rain storms she was filthy!

While were on it, hows the water quality where you guys live? here in Corona, Ca. the water is so Hard it takes twice as long to get the water spots off after the carwash than the carwash itself lol, so I have to wash at a self car wash down the street with filtered water.

We might be luck enough not to have snow but the pollen is real bad right now. "Pollen season" is usually right before "love bug season" starts. To keep from attracting bees I have been rinsing my car in between washes. Since its just a rinse and not a wash I only squeegee the windows dry and for the rest of the week the water spots are horrible! When I wash in the morning and dry while its still cool outside I dont have a problem but any other time I an covered in them.

Anybody else in Florida lookin forward for "love bug season" to kick off?

Wasn't too bad last year, but the year before I had them over 1/2" deep on a 10 Mile stretch around Melbourne. Saw people run into the ditch because you couldn't see! Had to get out of the car twice to scrape enough off the windshield to see!! Hopefully the "cooler weather" we have this year will keep the population down.

I'm in Syracuse, NY(Go ORANGE!!) and I usually take mine's to Delta Sonic to get her washed, at least once a week. The temp averages about 25 here but I gotta keep the salt off of her! Everybody is complaining about the little snowfall they are getting in the south. Come to the Northeast for a week, I bet they won't mind alittle bit of flurries! Lol..

Grew up in Buffalo.

I moved to Nashville four years ago, and I don't miss shoveling out every morning one bit. I can deal with the sub-three inches we've been getting. I just hate that it covers the road around here because none of the cities have enough plow trucks to clear things out.

A word of advice for everyone: Pressure washing, while not really bad for your car, isn't exactly beneficial either. If you've got a lot of grit and dirt on the car, pressure washing has been known to blow all that crap across the surface of the paint and leave lots of lovely little gouges. You won't notice them until the light hits the car at a certain angle.

Trust me, I managed to do this with the little IS300 I used to own. Took it to the power wash one time, and combined with the scrub brush, it did a number on my clear coat. And to top it off, the car was black, so it showed everything.

You'd be better off, if you're worried about keeping the salt off the car, to wash it with Optimum No-Rinse in your garage or somewhere similar.

On a side note, I washed my car last Wednesday. It was about 35, but the sun set in the process of drying my car. Let me tell you what, that was fun. The ****ing towel froze to the hood of my car.

I loath those little bastards. The smell of hot love bug guts is disgusting and I obsess over keeping them off the car. My wife hates to travel with me during love bug season.
