Adding Pause to Phonebook Dialing
Adding Pause to Phonebook Dialing
Has anyone had any success adding a "pause" to the phonebook in the Max? I tried copying from my cell phone's phone book but the Max does NOT like the "," (comma) used in my Saga for a pause character. Dialing from my phone though and listening thru the bluetooth works fine, but I can't seem to add the entry (with pause) to my Max's Phonebook.
Wow.....I identified that problem too. My Max is 3 months old and I attempted to program in a "pause" to access my voicemail system when I first started to program the car's phonebook. Unfortunately, no luck. I'm looking forward to an answer from you folks.
Taking it old school here...back in the day, when 1200 baud was king, we would add a "comma" to add a short delay between dialing digits so we could automagically log on to bbs systems. Today, at least with VZW, I use it to add my passcode for voicemail...e.g. for verizon you dial *86 to access your VM. It then asks for your passcode. If, however, you were to concantenate the two seperated by a brief pause (e.g. *86 PAUSE 12345) you would no longer be prompted for you passcode and instead, get right to business listening to VM.
On my Saga, I have it as *86,,12345...this, however gets truncated to *8612345 (a non dialable number) if you import it to the Max. Of course the same holds true for my MeetingPlace account as well. I've tried the *, # and + to no avail but wondered if anyone had found the "easter egg" that would allow a pause.

I'm sure you guys have a reason to do things the way you are but why not just dial you voicemail from the handset phone book as opposed to the vehicle phone book. Your phone would have to support this of course.
I may just be paranoid but I refuse to store any numbers in my vehicle phone book because I do not want anyone with access to my car for whatever reason to have the ability to grab my numbers.

You are correct of course. The only way I have been able to do this is from the handset. I just do not like fumbling for the instrument in the car. Of course, it is just VM but I do like the "convenience" of being able to get the message to "pick up milk, bread, and eggs on your way home" before I get home and get scolded!!!

Getting scolded is always a bad thing. In an effort to make sure that doesn't happen while saving you from fumbling I'll offer the following. When I mentioned dialing using the handset phone book, I was referring to doing so using the capability of the car to do so rather than actually picking up your phone and doing it. If this is not one of the features on the '09, I will be quiet and go away but if you can, give it a shot. Your wife will be happy and you'll stay out of trouble.
Does the 10 offer the pause feature?
What carrier did you say you had? I thought for most carriers you could set up your voicemail to recognize the phone number your calling from and if it is your cell number, just bypasses the whole passcode part totally. Atleast this is how it used to be, I've been spoiled with the iPhone virtual voicemail for 3 years now and
might be a little behind on how most voicemails work now days.

As the phonebook import doesn't import the "comma" or pause, I can only import (or program) the *86 and then use the digit dialing on the screen (or speak the number using voice recognition after connect) Painful but does work....I think it easier to smash the speed-dial key on my phone instrument (dialing thru the phone) than the navigate that menu tree. Was just checking to see if anyone found the "easter egg" that would allow the addition of pauses or "comma" to the phonebook on the Max (MeetingPlace would be another good use as well.)

For 2010 owners, the answer is found on page 4-121 of the manual. My thanks to Boone for his helpful response. I'm going to try programing the "pause" later tonight.
I hope the Nissan Tech guys are reading/listening to our gripes. One can only hope this flaw will be fixed in the coming years.
