2 or 3 stage paint?

Hi all,

Last night, after being away from my car for 1 month, I scraped part of my rear door on a piece of metal sticking out in a parking lot (I don't know why it was there either). Anyways, I took my car to a body shop this morning and I was quoted $250 to paint the door. However, he said that if it is a 3-stage paint, he would have to do the whole side bumping the quote to around $500.

So, is the OEM paint job on the 2009 Max 2 or 3 stage?

Thanks!

Not sure, but I have been told that some colors are now a base coat, followed by a pearl coat, followed by clear coat.

Hi all, thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately, I still can't seem to find a reliable way to tell what type of paint job my Max has. There HAS to be some way though, I just know it!!!

Anyone? Again the color is Tuscan Sun (color code = NAD)

According to paintscratch.com, since it does NOT have tricoat in the name, it is a two stage paint.

Gizzsdad, thank you so much for your response! I knew there had to be somewhere I could look, just couldn't find it.

BTW, I'll try posting pictures of before and after to those interested. Everything should be fixed (hopefully) by mid-next week.

I was going to suggest paintscratch.com, but you got there already. The pearl white color is Tri-Color paint. I bought a touch up kit from them.
good luck,
Max
