Possible Borla Exhaust System

In light of everthing that I am going through with my Stillen system I have been in contact with a couple of companies and one of them being Borla. there are interested in making a product for us but want to know a few things before hand.

What are you all looking for in performance
What sound are you looking to hear
How much would you pay for the system at max
What type of look are you looking for (tips, etc.)

Also I would assume that everyone is interested in a kit that will not have any surface rust over any period of time correct?

Please provide your feedback that way I can hopefully get the ball rolling on this product and get another system out there already.

Click HERE to fill out a application for the above mentioned questions.

This is GREAT NEWS! I love Borla!

Performance? Obviously a slight increase in HP is expected, just don't want to lose any low end.

Sound? DEEP, aggressive, NOT "angry bees in a coffee can" (aka ricey Pep Boys exhaust sound) and not obnoxious Flowmaster sound

Pay? Probably in the neighborhood of 600 to 800.

Look? Nice full sized tips that are at least the same size and probably relative shape that is stock on our cars now. A good stainless steel or even titanium finisher would be pretty sweet.

Keep us posted on what you find out.

and performance, obv. the more the merrier
Sound wise, G35/37...350/370Z... times 5...sightly louder but not obnoxious.
I dono, i want something that looks nasty and sounds good.

Funny... I've been entering my info every month now for at least 6 months with Borla at this link: http://www.borla.com/applications/no...%20Maxima%20SV

Everyone should do it.....

What are you all looking for in performance
Not much 10-12 HP maybe if even possible.

What sound are you looking to hear
Believe it or not the Borla 370Z catback is music to my ears...

How much would you pay for the system at max
$2000

What type of look are you looking for (tips, etc.)
Same as their 370Z kit, fill that hole completely like they did on the 370.

Agreed. And quad tips would look incredibly ridiculous with our current rear setup. Just fill the exhaust out make it sound decent and reduce the bends and I will pay at least $1200.

Borla's are top quality performance exhaust systems. I don't think you can get a full cat-back borla system for less than $1,500.

I would be interested in hp gains

Deep throaty sound - not too crazy

Would pay up to $2,000. come on guys! we've been waiting for a long time for a quality exhaust system... i think it'll be worth the price.

I like our stock oval tips. Match the size or a bit larger.

I hope Borla does comes up with something for our Maximas! Good luck KillaKam!!!

Their full cat-back exhaust system for the RX-8 (my previous car) was less than $900 easily and was by far my favorite for that car based on the look, quality, and sound it produced. I fully believe Borla can come up with a sub $1000 very high quality exhaust for our cars that blows the other options (very limited obviously) out of the water.

Maybe with Borla showing more interest in our cars, other companies will step into the ring and bring about more options and competitive pricing. But I am most anxious for the Borla, with Greddy being a not so distant second.

If everyone could do me a favor and click HERE to fill out an application basically for what you are looking for from Borla I would appreciate it. I am trying to make it as organized as possible so that I can just sent them an excel sheet with all the replys.

Thanx all

I was going to fill out your form but I noticed at the bottom asking for a 100% guarantee that I would buy it if it fit what I listed. Thats a hard thing to ask for man. As much as I would be willing to spend my maximum amount I would have to see/hear something tangible first before I can fully commit. Adjectives can be different from one person to the next.

Well that means if everything fit basically the way that you want it.. So if you need to hear something first that would be what the 100% is contingent on. I'll reword it to make it sound better.

Kam,

I filled out your form, you should add a couple questions that ask if some of us are willing to fund for development and willing to provide test cars.

If Borla can send some people to SC I would be more than happy to lend them my car for development. I can always wish.

Noted and added it to the form.

Borla is looking for an R&D vehicle if they decide to go ahead with this project in or near the Oxnard, California area. If you live near their feel free to put that in the form.

Sound like this, look like this, and be approx. $500-$800 based on options; ie: full exhaust vs rear section only.

Too sporty? Really, is that even a possibility? That is the only sound I would replace my factory exhaust with. Even if it was toned down a few db's for sake of being a "lux" car.

Bottomline, the Borla 350Z rasp-tastic stuff - just not favorable for any car, much less one that I'm going to have to convince my wife to get in and out of. The gurgle and rasp is a complete no-no for these cars. Leave that to the boxer-style engines, SRT-4's, etc.

How hard would it be for Greddy to re-engineer this exhaust system from the Altima to the Maxima?

That deep booming sound will produce loads of drone with the CVT.

This is Alvin from Borla Performance in California. Glad to be here reading about your community. As mentioned, Borla would be interested in hearing from owners and their thoughts on an exhaust for the Maxima. Let us know what interests you in sound, look, and performance. We can build a cat-back or rear section but cost is always a consideration. Any input would be appreciated.

At the moment we would have to compile research data to move forward with a system for the Maxima. Fortunately we have past experience with the 350Z/370Z, Sentra SpecV, and something called a GT-R. We think we could offer a great product for this community.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Welcome man, thanks for posting. It's nice to hear things strait from the horse's mouth. I think a Borla exhaust would be great, and I would def. be all for a cat-back. Personally, I'm in no particular rush for an exhaust, but I know loads of people on here are chomping at the bit for an option other than Stillen.

I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with, and hopefully being a future customer.

ok, I guess I'm a newb, how does an automatic have more drone than a stick when both vehicles are cruising at the same highway speed?

It's much easier to manipulate the RPM with a manual when cruising, also when accelerating you can control the RPM to stay out of the drone range.

Take it from me I'm the master of avoiding the "DRONE" on my cars, autos were pretty much screwed.

Do a search I think Cattman also talks about it on a few threads on the org.

Very nice, my brother has a Borla Cat Back on his 300C, it was suppose to drone because of the MDS, thats the multi displacement system, going from 8 cylinders to 4, well anyway it does not or it just sounds so sweet

I would prefer a "drone" over a burping, gurgling, raspy exhaust note any day of the week.

I don't know about this burping, etc example is coming from my Borla equipped 370Z has none of those qualities.

However if you want drone that bad, PepBoys, Midas or Sears Auto will happily cut out your two resonators for you and that should make you extremely happy.
