Wind Noise
Wind Noise
I have a 2010 Max, 1500 miles. My wind noise during freeway driving with all windows up seems to be loud and don't remember it being that loud when I bought it. So I have 2 questions.
1) Are you noticing the wind noise in your max? (yes, turn the radio off
2) What should I check to minimize the noise, if possible?
I will bring it up at my first oil change at 3750 miles but would like a heads-up from my fellow 7 gen owners.

This subject could turn into a bucket of worms.
Wind noise in a car is a very nebulous and elusive thing. For instance, when I am driving along the freeway at around 65 MPH in a light rain with the wipers on, the wind noise fluctuates very noticably with every sweep of the wipers. That is because the blade on the driver's side becomes a wind baffle when its sweep reaches the windshield edge on the driver's side, changing the flow of the airstream coming by the driver's window and around the outside mirror.
When I added rain guards above all four side windows, I noticed the wind noise increased measurably. To offset this, I have been experimenting with small wind baffles along the outside front edge of the front doors just ahead of, and above the mirrors in order to redirect the air. I now have the noise level back to where it was before adding the rain guards, but hope to be able to reduce it a tad more. When I am satisfied I can do no more to reduce the noise further, I will post pics of what I have.
In the meantime, we can hear how others here feel about wind noise with the 7th gen.

yea, the car is quiet when not driving on a freeway. Love the smooth, powerful, and quiet road on the road. The freeway driving is the only concern...but maybe I'm just making a big deal out of it. I'll test drive another Max next time I'm in the dealership. (but need to be careful not to buy one for my wife!)
On my 2010, it's vary noticeable above 35 miles an hour. I've only had it a few weeks and have not isolated it yet. It sounds like it's coming in the top of the windshield. Maybe the sunroof. I ran it through the car wash the other day and looked for drips, but didn't see any. It's quite substantial, and don't think it could be "normal". I'm going to have my wife drive it while I'm in the passenger side. Maybe take a rag and try to "plug the hole" in different areas,, see if I can isolate it that way.
Innofish, I see you posted this last year,, did you ever isolate it?

You really want to hear some wind noise, go drive some Honda's. I constantly see that as a ding when I read car reviews about their products.
I had an 2008 Honda Accord Coupe v6...Haven't heard any wind noise come into my car. Now I have the 09 Maxima and I hear nonstop wind coming from the ac ducts it sounds like..but What do I know..Im no mechanic, and nothing music cant solve haha

Mine 'seems' fairly quite. The tire noise is awful. I need to replace the factory tires in the spring. But those tires on certain types of roads make a noise that will drown out just about anything. However on smooth freshly paved roads there is little to no noise that I notice. Even at 120+ the car is incredibly smooth and quite.
I do not notice any real amounts of wind noise with my 11' max, but then again I am coming from a 07' Civic SI which was not very quiet. After switching to 20's though I do notice more road noise, however it is not very loud unless I am on horrible pavement.
My wifes 11' Jeep Grand Cherokee is for sure more quiet than my Maxima though.

The RS-As are not the quietest tires, but I've had louder ones in the past. Rough road surfaces are responsible for much tire noise.
