Second time this happens...I have 2009 SV Sport Pkg. After some heavy rains here in NY...I went to put something in my trunk and when i looked inside i saw water droplets on the trunk carpet. When i went to see what it was..boom my whole carpet was wet. I couldn't take to dealer because of work...and it all dried up in like 3 days. No funky smells or anything... than we had several more rain storms and everything was fine so i just went on with my days. Just came back again after a some rain and all wet again. Crap...anyone have this?? Oh and the trunk was closed.

 

Nope, not a problem and I also have a 2009 SV Sport.

 

The water isn't being put in your trunk by a magic fairy, so there has to be a leak somewhere.

Are you absolutely sure there is no leak where the spoiler is attached to the trunk? If the problem is not the spoiler attachment holes, my next bet would be an imperfection or bad attachment of the gasket around the trunk lid opening, allowing water to slip underneath (or over) the gasket.

As a last resort, I would cover the floor of the trunk with flat pieces of cardboard, leave the car out in the rain, then after you are fairly sure the water has reached the trunk, you should be able to tell where the water has been dripping onto the cardboard. Look directly above that spot to see where the water is dripping from.

 

I will base my answer on a hunch. Since this has happen to you before and then not happened I would say that you could have accidently left the trunk open or as in another thread accidently opened the trunk via remote there for finding it soaked. I wish we had a chime when the trunk was open like the doors have when the key is inside or out of range and the car is on. There is chance of rain this sunday so make sure you close the trunk and take the keys out of your storage place and leave them out.

 

I agree with IH8Spm. It's easy to leave the trunk open but it looks closed.

A simple experiment will prove the thesis. Place towels in the trunk and close it. Using a garden hose, simulate rain. You can direct the spray directly onto the sealing area. Pop the trunk and see if there is water. If so, you have a leak.

 

I have a couple times walked up to my trunk to find it open... Didn't know it was open and if I would have hit the button on the fob while walking up instead of opening it with the button on the trunk I would have never known it was already open.

 

I think Light has made a good deduction (again). The trunk has a raised metal lip with a rubber gasket attached. If the rain entered while the car was stationary it would seem the perimeter seal would be an unlikely cause...



The spoiler bolt holes would be my guess too. Since they are covered by fabric any bad seal at these holes would not be visible. If you run a hose on the car, check to see if the trunk lid fabric is wet...

Thanks guys will try to narrow it down by using all the suggestions and keep you posted. Also the second time when I noticed the trunk was wet I was coming back from work and wanted to drop my briefcase into the trunk and poped it open by pressing on the bottom button of the trunk..so i know it was closed. Also the top liner was never wet where the spoiler wholes are...but ill try to take apart and see...

 

The Max has a trunk sensor that treats an open trunk as an open door. You will see the alert on the dash. So it seems that an open trunk is not possible.

 

I used to have this issue with my 02 Mercedes C230 coupe... Used to find water in the spare tire well. Never really got to the bottom of it before I got rid of the car.

 

easy. if the padding on your truck lid is wet, then the gaskets on the lights need to be replaced. or the gaskets around the truck on loose, cut, or worn. if you insist, open the rear seats & shine a flashlight in while someone hose down the outside & watch for leaks.
