Maybe the subject has you confused

it's: what is your top 10 things you look for or ask upon a lease

I'm not sure why you gave me numbers on a lease when I have a better lease option now - I'm new to leasing and was just in a 5 yr purchase with my previous Max - I understand you're handing money over to them over a 39 month time but you also have the option to buy even though they make $$ on the % -

So to rephrase my subject I'm looking for the top 10 things to look for upon a lease

I've never leased, but here are some of the features stepping up from the S to the SV gives you:

Fog lights
LED turn signals on outside mirrors
Digital BOSE audio system ('S' is non-bose)
Nine speakers ('S' has eight)
XM satellite radio capability, with three free months service
Radio Data System with speed-sensitive volume control
Homelink Universal Transceiver (gate/garage door opener)
Power lumbar support ('S' has manual)
Driver seat manual thigh support extension
Leather seats ('S' seats are cloth)

right off the bat, your lease deal is most likely for an S

important factors for leasing, of course your monthly payment, followed by oil changes every 3750 per nissans guidelines, tire rotations, the good years should last for a 36/39k lease, change your air filter out at 20k, or halfway through the lease, people think I don't need to spend money on that but in some places they get clogged up and you suddenly don't realize your car is accelerating like it has something being towed behind it, so check that plus it kills gas mileage, keep an eye on your tires, I know lots of people who ended up buying brand new tires for cars they handed back.

Thats pretty much it, unless the dealer is giving you included maintenance, you pay for all servicing

Having leased several vehicles and now buying my 09, if I suddenly had to replace my 09, for 20-25k I would buy a used car with low mileage, I have done the searching and already know what I want.

I would get what you want in it and then work on price. If you negotiate the price of a base model then add stuff they will find a way to bring the price back to retail. Having a hookup helps also.

Remember every $1000 equals approx $26 per month increase so if you don't want to put money down expect your payment to go up based on this formula. I don't know if I got the best deal but I am willing to share that I picked up my FULLY loaded SV+premium+tech with spoiler for $389/month with NOTHING down. This is in NY where I know they have higher prices. I thought it was a good deal because if you look at the advertised deal its really $289 + $75 for rolling in the down payment = $364 for the base S model.

I was told there was no way to get a maintenance package but maybe you can get that worked out.

Lastly, and most importantly, do not buy the car at end of the lease unless you did something stupid and owe the dealership a whole bunch of money that they will forget about if you buy the car. My friend at Nissan told me to go to his brother's used car lot and get a 3 year old Maxima for $2K-$4K less than what I would be buying the car for.

From experience, your better off buying your own lease then turning around and buying a used random car, you introducing to many variables into the mix and I would rather pay for piece of mind then take over someone elses problems.

Plus if your gonna buy a used car, look around cause you can find awesome deals, and make sure you get a pre-owned car not a used car, and I don't mean certified pre-owned, I mean it looks like a new car, cause used means exactly that.

Lastly hamzer11, your lease deal sounds great, what do you mean by you can't get a maintenance plan, my advise is that if your leasing then just change the oil every 3750 and thats that, and to hamzer and the OP, lease deals have nothing to do with the price of the car, they fluctuate more on popularity of the car and how much the manufacture wants to move the car, right now you can get awesome deals on TL

I definitely understand what you mean by the knowing factor. That is, knowing how the car was treated and taken care of but for the most part I feel confident in a 3 year old car with less than 36K miles. It could be a bad experience but I guess that is a matter of luck.

What I meant was that a free maintenance plan was not included for me (I know some people got these in their deal so I mentioned it).

While I agree with what you say about lease deals, I have to say that leases do have a lot to do with residual and resale from the dealer's perspective, which I guess translates to popularity somewhat.

Glad to hear from someone that I have a good deal. I haven't seen anyone post their lease deal so I had nothing to compare to. If anyone needs a deal on any Nissan and is in the NY tri-state area, I got a good guy at a Brooklyn dealership.

What model/options are you looking at with this price?

Highest Price:Lowest Price:Average Price:
$21,995 $18,787 $20,350

These are advertised 2007 Maxima prices from Edmunds for the Midwest. I leased and plan to buy for $18,500 residual at the end of the lease. Mine will have about 23k miles by then which is lower than the average of the 2007 cars priced above. Great deals were not happening when I leased mine and I would much rather buy a car that I have driven and maintained than buy an unknown vehicle that is used.

I agree Mick

good info here guys

sgirgiss: just the base S - I just saw online they have SV's running at the same price as the S I was looking at - (27,500) I'm assuming the lease program for 242 is only on an S though - hopefully they call back soon

good info though anyone else?

If it's zero down than its a good deal. But I tell everyone this, please go to overstock.com and click the tab on top that says cars, it will ask you for your zipcode what car you want and show you the best price you can get for that car in your area and there are dealers that will guarantee that price for you.

Having worked in dealerships, never open with I found this online price and this is what I want it for, they will laugh at you, the internet does not reflect the real world, it's just another tool.

The smart thing to do is find the car you want and know the high and low your willing to pay for it, watch the dealer inventory daily and weekly, get a feel for how fast the dealer is moving cars, and go from their, before I bought any of my cars, I knew everything the dealer had and how long they had it, I even knew which dealers they swapped with, I even do drive bys so when the dealer plays that game of, I don't think we have that you just sit back and smile like oh gosh, look at that Usually the what I do is figure out what they don't have, configure the car to that way, so then they are willing to give you a slightly more expensive model but for the price your willing to pay cause they want to move inventory.

Dealers are an elite underworld of legalized mobsters, the 1st time I saw them change the cars value, I was utterly impressed, they changed a car from 35k to 32k with the click of a mouse, all it really did was allow Nissan Financial to accept the deal, the other way at 35k Nissan kept rejecting the deal, but it's all in the name of profit and they don't lose anything.

Everytime I go to the dealer I laugh and want to blow the place up

I just did my first lease. I have a 2010 SV, Latte Leather. I gave zero down, $441/mo for 39 months. I am allowed 15,000m/yr and my risidual is $17,200. I'm happy with that...that's what's important. Are you happy with your payment and are you plannning on keeping the car, I am.

Leased mine bout 8 months ago. 3000 down. 2010 SV Premium. I pay 382/month with 15,000 miles per year 39 months. Honestly best car decision I have ever made. I dont think I would be so happy with the S tho even if I were saving 100 a month. Thats just a personal preference bcuz I like the features in the SV.

As for a lease... yes you throw away money because it just goes towards depreciation the asset (the car). But Nissan has a great program to trade your lease in for another lease down the road or you can buy it out. One thing you do have to be careful with, is doing any mods to it. They have to be reversable, like tint, rims, interior lights, etc. If you start changing stuff in the motor, no bueno. But as I see it, its like an apartment. You have to live somewhere. If you dont have money to buy a condo or house, you LEASE an apartment or house. You pay someone else to borrow their property for a certain amount of time, then you have to give it back the way you got it. You should go for it. You will not regret the car at all

Whether lease or purchase the car is going to depreciate significantly. As some say "buy used and let some other sucker eat up that depreciation". I picked up my 09 Max with 22k on the motor with Sport/Tech for 26,500. Put ~5 grand down, may payments are a little over $360/mo which is definitely doable. Love that I own it so I can modify the bejesus out of it. Unless they radically change the 8th gen Max and make a high torque diesel option I plan on keeping this car for quite a while. As ambixel says, you will not regret getting this car.
