DIY Push Button Start MOD
#41
Just got off the phone with riverside infiniti, the price for just paddles shipped was a whopping $165! That is waayyy too much IMO. I dont understand how a key piece of the vehicle like the start button is only $40, and peices of magnesium are $165!!

Let me check with my dealership next week. They love me heh. Maybe if enough people are interested i could work out some sort of reduced pricing.

Alright, somebody has to get this thread back on its original topic
GTR button is scheduled for delivery today, and hope to get it installed on Sunday this weekend. Will try to post pics of the install process. One thing is for sure- this is going to be a royal pain in the ****. My dealer wanted $350 to install it because of how many pieces you have to take off in order to access the back of the starter switch assy.
I'll let you all know how it went on Monday.

The paddle shifters might be a pain in the *** with the steering wheel on. When I worked at the plant they were very easy to install (but that was before the steering wheel was on) IIRC the screws for the "shifters" are right behind the steering wheel.

well guys here it is...I did a write up on it for anyone else looking to do this mod. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, This was really simple took me about 15 mins.
First step was to pop the plastic piece on side off
Second is to pop off the plastic piece on the bottom of the steering wheel. Left side first!
Now go to the right side
You will then see a screw then holds the trim piece, unscrew with a Philips screwdriver
Next gently pop out the trim piece to gain access to the igniton switch
Next put your hand behind the ignition switch and push out GENTLY!
unplug the switch
Plug your GT-R one in
Screw back the screw
Pop in all the plastic triming
And you are finished! Here are the pics

Just put mine in and I found a much quicker way to put it in. I pulled with my finger nails only around the chrome ring portion and it all slid out without breaking a nail.lol lol.It took a bit of effort to pull it out with my finger nails but it slide out and in went the new one and all done in about 50 seconds.

Actually want to do this. I actually went outside from work and tried to pry it off with my finger nail and it came right out! Think im going to do this. The red would look nice with the all black interior!

if u like modding interior grab a set of body molding removal tools they're $7. I use them to remove all my interior pieces - they work GREAT and dont damage a thing.

Yeah i prob will have to go from the back but I was wondering since a dude earlier in the post said he just popped it out with his fingernail. I will have to go from the back if I have to though.

yeah...if you read the posts up above it's really simple. you pull out the chrome bezel with your fingernail or some plastic tool, then you push the button out from behind. you can take as much of the dash off if you want to, but you can just pop the button out. try reading the instructions above again
