I was in touch with UpRev and Technosquare last year and so was another member. The following is from a G37 forum...an email from Cobb tuning in reply to a question.

"Now you've been tuning the G37 not the GT-R, well Nissan uses almost the exact same logic on all of its V6 motors, but the G37 has the VVEL system that adds another layer of complexity to the timing algorithms. As I said above Nissan uses intake, and exhaust cam timing in their calculation for ignition timing and the VVEL logic is extremely complex. Trey is digging into the VVEL system on the G37 and 370Z and as soon as we understand that system we will add what we can to the tuning software and the information into the tuning guide.

As you can tell there is still a lot that we don't know about this car and a lot that we are working on, but I hope this info helps.

Joe"

If anything has changed, I can't find it. When my car's warranty expires, a y-pipe and larger cat-back is in the plans with maybe some tinkering with the intake afterward. An ECU modification of the WOT restriction at both low speeds and above 90mph and a 300 rpm bump at the top to allow 6500 instead of 6200 would be all I would want. Until/if the computer is cracked, it would seem 10-15 real whp is about our limit..unless I am missing something.

The ECU will not reset anything... man I guess every new generation maxima owners need spoon feeding... TS ecu isn't just software, they actually open the ECU and change ish.... no need for ECU's yet... get at least the basic bolt ons, if u all the sudden go get an ECU how will it automatically tune itself for future mods???... focus on the basic boltons, all these things can be found all over the forum or at least the 6th or 5th gen section, like moncef said, you guys also do have 3.5's just incase y'all didn't know

Let's just say you are in the know here with the right mods and the tuners are not producing anything that helps. Both tuners say that conventional power mods work but only to a degree due to the uncracked ECU and its interaction with a CVT transmission which combine to make torque management the biggest detriment to 7th gen cars and cuts the potential of the mods back. A 3 inch exhaust with a y pipe, torque management options...like 50% crippled and a real larger ...with a bigger maf... cold air box would make some power. That is the only way I can explain why we are not out spending 1500 plus for the changes. A hundred bucks a HP isn't appealling but that may be more like 30 bucks a hp with proper tuning and the restrictions crippled somewhat. That WOT limiter is a drag under 30mph and again over 90. We see your argument and it is valid but doing all that isn't worth it to most of us unless we get more pressing fixes for the torque management. Vias blocks seem to work better on earlier generations as some have reversed that mod due to sluggish low end.

Again, aren't the 7th gen ECU's similar to the 6th gen or altima ECU meaning UTEC is plug and play???.... this I don't know as I'm not too much for generations about the 5th... so to the above poster, what mods do u have that sooo needs an ECU? Ever tried widebnd and an afc of somesort??? Way more of a tune than a ECU will do.... again there are options out there but I think ppl just get blinded and stuck on one that there mind tells em.... research buddy, research... ah wha happn to dem yute yah moncef? chuh bloodclaat!

Chuckling...I will be 68 next month and was a stock class drag racer 45 years ago. We gapped our plugs, installed distributor springs that allowed faster timing advance but limited the total advance, rejetted the carburetor and opened the exhaust one way or another. My knowledge is outdated for certain in this day of electronic controls.

The problem of 7th gen is in the interaction of the CVT TCU and the engine management system. It isn't as simple as a plug and play ECU. Maybe by the time my warranty expires something will be done to control the CVT and engine but so far no one has had much luck and that is all I was pointing out. The car won't be raced but the driving experience will be much more enjoyable without the torque management nanny that... afaik...has not been overridden by any current solution.

Things have changed pops (don't get offended, I say it to all the elders rochester can vouch for it) but safc's were never plug and play and the still aren't but you gotta do what u gotta do if ur "craving for a tune that bad" plugging up an ECU of any sort will still have fcuked up AFR's so whether u use an ecu u still won't be "tuned" not 1 bit, no point in a tune if all you got is an intake or just inttake and exhaust, doubt your afr's get affected THAT MUCH to NEED a tune.... 7th gens are similar to 5.5 as far as performance goes.... and again 13.7 here somebody please go faster damn it
