Replacing headlight and foglight bulbs on 7th gen
I bought Sylvania Silverstars for the headlights (both low and high) and fog lights and I am at a loss on how to install these things. Ive heard that the front bumper has to come off to get to the bulbs? Why would they make it so difficult just to replace headlight bulbs which is a regular maintenance issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Newb to the site here by the way, so be gentle! haha
PS This is a non-HID projector model.

You don't have to take the bumper off. Just remove the tires and the inner fender lining. I agree that it sucks we have to do this. Stupid design. Same for the rear lights, why should you have to remove the whole light to change a bulb.

Man thats not as bad as I thought...the inner wells should come out fairly easily...and you can get to the fog lights this way too? Thanks for the input! The dealer wanted $200 to put in 4 bulbs (not including the fogs just the hi and low beams) so I didn't bother asking about the fogs. Crazyyy.

Which is why they make these cars so hard to work on so the dealerships can make MORE money...its ridiculous. I have a '90 5.0 Mustang GT and every time I work on it I feel like a real mechanic because everything is SO easy haha. This car has stumped me!

Foglights - you can get to these by removing the black plastic cover underneath the front bumper, it's held on by plastic clips just take them all off and remove it you'll see your fog lights and have plenty of room to work to mount ballasts or whatever.
Rear bulbs - yeah it's a pain but you gotta remove the tail lights. best way I found to get them out is to take off all the liner exposing the two bolts, take the screws off the bolts, and then just hammered on them with a rubber mallet until the light popped out. you want to be real careful if you're prying from the outside the edges of the tail light are thin and can break off easily.
Headlight bulbs - easiest way is to jack the car up one side at a time, take the wheel off, take the clips out and remove the fender liner. you can do it by just turning the wheel and pulling back the liner but it really makes it a pain trying to work like that. just jack the car up and pull the wheel off it takes a few extra minutes.

its possible when you put in the new bulb its not sitting correctly and is angled. id first check to make sure the bulb is in right.

is it possible to jack up one side and turn the wheel in either direction that gives you better access to the fender well? I've done this on other cars when I worked at my families body shop. If u try this, put a stand under the frame, never trust a jack!

I usually have to jack up the car and take off the wheel to get enough room to work on the lights. I've tried just turning the wheel but it wasn't enough room for me to work with.
And +1 on don't trust a jack use stands.

Ghozt, do we have to buy an entire HID kit for the SV's, or will replacement bulbs (6000k, ect.) just plug and play with the factory harness? I don't want to buy a ballast if I won't need it.

I wll take a second look at them tomorrow then...I'm trading rimswith a kid I met on craigslist for my stock 18s and his gunmetal 19s so the tires will be off

For bout a month now, my R HID headlight comes on for about 40 seconds then blinks off.
Dealer replaced the bulb at a cost of $197 yesterday.
Still blinks off after a few seconds, apparently after electricals warm up.
Now they say they will have to replace the ballast at a cost of $569.
Ah, technology.
Guess I'll be driving only in daytime for a while.
Anybody know where I can get a low-cost replacement that is OEM-friendly?

Yeah it's normal. In order to make your high beams HID's you would have to retrofit them to a projector lens or else with them in the normal light reflectors you'll reflect all kinds of light also it isnt recommend to have HIDS in ur highs because they go on and off and HIDs arent bright right away

If you want good hids go to ddm-tuning.com best website and its less expensive. I get all my hids from there for $40. It's worth it

I had the Sylvania bulbs on my Honda Accord. These bulbs will only give you a whiter higher intensity light, they do not give you a further reach of your light beam. The reach of the beam is determined by the lens in the car. So the money you are spending just changes the color of your light beam and I do not think it is worth the extra money. When one of these Sylvania bulbs burned out I replaced it with regular Halogen bulbs. Save you money and the hassle of changing the bulbs
