Need to Mount a Droid2

Had a bit of a scare yesterday when I had to maneuver very violently and quickly to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me on a 45mph roadway. I was able to maneuver successfully thanks to my crisp handling Max, but during those violent twists, my cell phone came off my gel pad and almost did a Toyota lodge under the throttle. Of course the coiled cable came off and hit me in the face after I stopped to get the house back in order.

I see where MaxLoverAz used this http://www.proclipusa.com/home/home.aspx but I would like to take it one step further and get a better power supply connection to it so that cord doesn't whip around either.

Anyone seen a "smartcord" or hide-able power connection (Ideally, something like the media station for the Droid 2, but more secure) that they are using?

I have no power cord hanging out, I've since upgraded to the Droid X and I just slide my phone into the holder, not ugly power cords to be seen at all.

I'll take some pictures for you so you can see.

I actually got one of these - Soundgate M2 - it's pretty cheap but works awesome. I use it to dock my Droid Incredible in the middle. Absolutely love it, used it on my last car and will on my future ones too. You just have to put a small circular mounting disc on the back of your phone (preferably phone case), which really hasn't been a problem at all and I didn't even notice it past the first week.

Here you can see when everything is closed it is clean.

Here is the underside...wow I should dust my car..

Mounts both vertical...

And horizontal. You can tighten the joints of the mount with an allen wrench and it holds VERY well. You can see the plug coming out of the center console that connects my Droid to my A/V input and charger. No plugs to hit me in the face, and a rock-solid mount.

Nice part is if it gets in the way of my right arm for driving, I can very effortlessly "lay it down" by pushing the lid the dock is mounted to closed most of the way. Or I can easily skip songs with my right hand without needing to reach for the dash.

Very ingenious, and as I don't use my phone except via the Max's built-in interface (Ok, I do admit to using the weather radar on the phone when inclement weather is nearby,) I can see where that may be handy. I take it you have a separate "hard shell" case for your Droid that you use for the car?

Yeah I mostly use it to stream Pandora or play music videos but occasionally use it for Google Navigation. Having it right by my right hand is very convenient. In my last car it was mounted to the dash using the same mount and I gotta say it is a world of difference not having to lean forward and try to steady my arm enough to touch the right part of the screen.

Originally I started with two hard cases, one with the disc mounted and another without. I eventually got tired of swapping the cases and just roll around with the one that has the disc. It has never gotten caught on anything and after a while you barely notice it's on the case anymore. I have an Otterbox case, which is like armor for your phone if you don't know about them.

My favorite part about it though is that it all tucks away and looks like nothing is there, if you want.
