2012 Mercedes' paying homage to the Maxima?

Alright I was looking at the new 2012 cls63 in a youtube video, (at bottom) recently, and took notice that it looks pretty damn close to the 7th gen maximas.
Also if you look at the 2013 sl model, it also looks pretty similar

I think its pretty sick that they got their aesthetics from our max's, but with a little something extra under the hood.

I dont see where you're drawing your conclusion from. They dont look anything alike to me. The only thing they have in common is that they are both sedans. lol. I saw the CLS at the Auto Show last month and I was blown away. IMO its the ultimate performance luxury sedan.

ps. I still love my Maxima

Some similarities in the body size and the tap shifters, other than that I agree I don't see it. I love my Maxima too, but I wouldn't mind the CLS...

Thats sad if Mercedes is stealing ideas for cars, one that cost 70k at the base level and another one that is well into the six figures, from a 40k budget luxury sedan. Which leads to the conclusion, I dont think they are trying to do that.

ya weak comparison, u mind as well compare the super maxima to a vw beetle. they look nothing alike.

in fact, i think benz made the upcoming CLS a little too busy and that that sloping creased side body line is somewhat killing the stance.

however, the current cls will forever be among the most powerful and original sedan designs ever.

I agree, along with the current Lexus GS and Jag XF those are 3 of the best styled sedans on the market......Trend is all 3 of them have that low swoopy roofline which is striking on them.

i think its halerious that all you 7th gen guys try to pull this stuff.... first the bs in the other thread about how the maxima is so soul stirring... and such an upgrade over a v6 camry and blah blah blah... now the maxima is being copied by Benz???? you people make me laugh.... I rented a maxima on my last trip.... any car that is a basic rental is not soul stirring... its a regular sedan...

What the hell does soul stirring mean anyway. I must have missed the thread. I do think the camry is quite bland compared to the Maxima. Not sure if your comment about basic rental makes sense because the Maxima could not have been a basic rental. Budget rents out G37s too and I don't think that's a basic rental. It is a sedan but a premium one in it's class. An Avalon may be a better comparison than the camry.

Anyway I just wanted to add that the CL retains most of it's design and inspiration that pre-dates the current maxima design so the basic premise of this thread is flawed. NO, the Nissan maxima did not inspire the new CL. But whether it did or didn't doesn't take anything away from the fact that our cars look damn good.

I can't think of any car that looks like the 7th gen. It's unique. That's why I bought it.
