exhaust

have any of you installed a set of Flowmaster mufflers on your Max? Im not looking to spend $1000 on a Borla or a Stillen. I have checked out a few clips on youtube and the flowmaster sounds great. If you have, which model did you go with and what needed to get done for install?

i looked into the flowmaster but it was to loud for my taste so i went with the borla but the 40 series part#942540 are the ones you would use they $80 each without the exhaust tips.

This is the sound I like. I found this video and the description written below of what was done.

I bought the original flowmasters 40 series mufflers. I had the old mufflers cut off and removed the resonator, replaced the resonator with a straight pipe, added the 40 series in place of the stocks and welded 3in tips on the muffler, thats it. It wasnt hard and did not take long. And it wasnt expensive. Any muffler shop thats half way decent should be able to do this for you if you tell them to do that. Good luck

Honestly, go with Greddy SP2's or SE's of your gonna do mufflers, youll get a much sportier sound.

I didn't think the borla changed the sound enough, its nice to hear something on the loud end of the spectrum.

it should pass inspection. It's not like you are taking the cat out. Unless there's noise restrictions, I can't see why not.

The borla is definitley an improvement over stock, it does sound great, but it needs a little less restriction.

Keeping drone down to an acceptable level was one of the criteria in the design process.

Bump from the grave. Just got my 40 series Flowmasters/Delta Force installed and it sounds hot not too loud just perfect imo. a lil louder compare to a stock G or Z.

By any chance could you give me the exact part number to the mufflers and everything else you had to purchase?? Appreciated in advance!

So i took my newly acquired Maxima to my exhaust guy, who did a phenominal job of listening and putting up the exhaust in my Benz before. And asked him what might he recommend...on the table we had Borla, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Stillen etc...he said that Borla would be way to loud, Magnaflow will be good for that deep sound ( thats what i had on my benzo) but Stillen might be better out of these since its designed for Maxima without being loud.
So i am going to go with what he recommends...Stillen exhaust comign up..
I am yet to listen to that youtube though

I'm actually buying the Stillen cat-back this week. More of a tuned sound (didn't want a deep tone on a V6... just doesn't sound right IMO). Plus, no drone or resonance.

This is a clip of a 7th gen with Stillen Intake, Stillen CBE and Racingline Y-pipe:

And here's one of just the Stillen axle-back system. Just the right tone I'm looking for:

Unless you've stood next to a Stillen system on a 7th Gen don't trust videos and crappy sound reproduction to make a decision based on sound alone or at least I wouldn't...

Lot's of drone on the Stillen don't believe me you'll find out.

Unfortunately, there aren't any modded 6th or 7th gens in my area... so I really don't have much to go on except for Ghozt's Borla exhaust which is only a hair louder over stock.
