Ouch

Got backed into in a parking lot this week. We were the only two vehicles in the lot and he managed to back into me. A larger old Dodge van with a trailer hitch. $3800+ and a week to have it repaired. The hitch hit exactly between the doors. It looks a lot worse in person. The sheet metal on both doors will have to be replaced and some minor body work in front of the rear wheel.

It was a good shot, and I think he did it with his eyes closed.

What I want to know is how he managed to hit you in an empty parking lot...

'Hate' is not a strong enough word. Especially since I always park at the very furthest end of parking lots from the stores/offices.

My wife and I are alike. No matter who is driving, we circle the parking lot until we find what we feel is the safest space. We often actually park in a parking lot associated with a totally different business/shopping center nearby and hike back if we don't find a good space in the lot belonging to the store we are going to.

It is unbelievable how many careless, thoughtless, incompetent, sloppy pigs have a driver's license.

I think some folks do it to spite people like us who park out in BFE whenever possible. My dad does the same thing with his '04 Vette. Nobody within 20 parking spaces when he parks, then comes out 10 mins later and there's a giant Excursion parked right next to him.

Best part is, he gets just as pissed as I do and usually leaves a "friendly" note under their windshield wiper

I had a lady pull up next to me while I was reading a book in the passenger side. She looked at me, looked away, then opened her door into mine. Livid wouldn't quite do justice to my reaction.

1000 miles on the car too. *ugh*

i was fortunate that all they had to do was replace the fender, bumper & headlight

I might be willing to understand a slight scrape, but this bus pushed your front end almost to the curb, and was a foot into your car. I guess what I am saying is that the bus tried to go THROUGH your car, not around it.

If this bus driver was not relieved of their job, then all Maximas (and other vehicles) in that area are potential victims of a bus driver that is totally incompetent. Going further, I would feel any passengers riding on this bus with this driver are at risk.

I had words with someone over this a while back. Threatened to call the police for vandalism, hit and run, whatever else I could threaten, and actually got the guy to cough up the money for the repair of the ding and touch up paint.

When he did it initially, he looked right at me, then proceeded to turn and start walking toward the store as if nothing had happened.

Back from the shop yesterday and they did an excellent job. It will be about 4 months before I can have the 3M film replaced on the front finder and the pin stripes replaced but that is OK. You cannot tell it had been hit.

I had a similar thing happen with my wife's car. It's been in 3 accidents, all while parked.

We had gone to the grocery store, and my mom was sitting in the back returning phone calls. When we came out, as I rounded a truck which blocked my view, I saw a guy in a black Nissan Sentra back into my wife's car, then pull forward, park, and get out.

He started walking away, and I asked him what he thought he was doing. He said he was shopping, and I said, "No you're not. You just hit my wife's car. Where's your insurance, license and registration?" He tried to play it off, until I pointed out the 2'x2' scrape he left on our car, as well as his own!

THEN, he couldn't find his insurance card (he had about 30 of them, from various years), so I called the police. They came out and straightened it all out.

Weird.

I had an idiot run into me in traffic, and when I tried to stop him, he pretended he didn't know what happened and took off. I made a police report for the hit & run but nothing ever happened to it.

Bad drivers suck!!!!

Some people do not know how to use there mirrors. I'd be real upset if my car had 1000 on it and that happened to me. Glad that there wasn't any frame damage or anything though and that everyone was alright.

No kidding, I hope both Jerry and 2young filed diminished value claims with their insurance carriers.

Not to change the subject, but how do you like the 3M film? I just bought a new 2011 Maxima and have been thinking about having this applied to the front end.

I love it. This is my third vehicle with it and I think it is a great investment. After five years on my old Murano and Altima there was no rock chips on either and no yellowing. My only fear is that I will get a chip before I have the missing piece replaced.

Thanks much for your response. Sounds good. I'm going to try to find an installer in my area and get it done.

The entire painted area of the front end. It ends about two feet from the front of the hood and then diagonally down to around the top of the tire. Everything except the headlights, fog lights and grill. Also the front of the mirrors and under the door handles on all four doors. The material under the door handles keeps rings and things from scratching the paint when opening the door.

Ouch indeed

I got rear-ended on my way to jury duty by a plumbing supply truck 3 months after buying my baby brand new.

I wish I knew how to post pics on this site.

Two days after I bought my last car, my roommate backed into it with her hitch, and did not tell me about it. She lied and lied and lied about it, till I made her confess. Covered it up with a license plate.

Just got my 2010 Max (CPO) on Friday and joined the community yesterday. This probably wasn't the first thread I should have focused on. It's making me wayyyyyyy too paranoid - which is only adding to the paranoia I'm having after driving a clunker for 7 years.
