HID's installed and problems
I just recently installed a set of HID's in my headlights about a week ago and when I first installed them, I installed without using the relay harness and I noticed when the lights would come on, one would go out, I turn them off and back on and then the other one would go out and sometimes both of them would go off. So I figured that it was because I didnt have a relay harness, so this weekend I installed a relay harness and it seems to be doing the same thing. I can turn them on and off about 3 times or so and when then they become alright and will remain lit.
Does anyone else have this issue? Im using a local seller of HID kits and his kits are pretty good. Does the car have some type of failsafe that recognizes that the lights are aftermarket and it powers them down?

Does the problem happen when the car is on, off or both?
I would double check those ballasts...
also for sh&ts and giggles i woul take those ballasts and plug them into your fog light ports and see if you get the same problem if you do then its your ballast, if you dont then there is something else going on with that headlight wirring/voltage etc...
I am not sure thats entirely true...i got 35w kit on my fogs..no problems

Well its actually both sides, one side would go out and then I turn them on and off and then the other side would go off and sometimes both of them would go off so its not favoring one side..
It's simple. When the light is out, check the voltage at the stock harness before the aftermarket HID connector. Then just before the ballast, then after the ballast. You will figure out where the fault is.
IMO; you may have a defective ballast(s) out of the box as a first option or when you first installed them by not having a relay it may have damaged the ballast(s) so even with the relay now installed the damage is pretty much done.
The manufactures warranty should cover this issue.

to see which ballast/bulb is the problem just switch the bulbs first from one side to the next, then do the same with the ballasts. If the problem follows the ballast or the bulb, you have found the component that is the issue.
Its your ballasts and possibly hid bulbs, swap everything out for another set..its usually the ballast. Dont bother wasting your time testing this or that. I had flickering issues when i first put on aftermarket hid on my base S, i just swapped the balast and it fixed the problem.
Its most likely your ballast, change em

Whats the odds of me getting 2 defective ballasts??? Both sides are cutting off, there not flickering, they will stay on for a little bit and go off. It doesnt seem like a ballast problem but I am going to swap them hopefully tomorrow.
I think u have a bad bulb. I once had That problem. I would turn on my fogs and the right side will come on then a minute later shut off so I turn them off n back on but still get the same problem. So I check n found out my ballast was bad
very high, the quality control on these balasts are horrible.
maybe 10-15 pct of them are bad

I installed HIDs on my '09 S and either one or both would not turn on during the first try. On the second try, it always comes on. I've been dealing with it for the past few months since the install itself was a pain in the rear. I hope I don't have to deal with it again where I have to replace one or both. For now, I'll deal with having to turn the headlights on and off, and back on few times.
Off Topic: You own an S model and have the side view mirrors with the turn signals? If so, did you purchase them seperately and install them yourself?

Must have been a bad kit or something because I ordered a pair from Hidextra on their Halloween sale and installed today and it has not been one flicker! good quality kit, check them out!
Please try with another HID Ballast or HID bulb. If you find a problem with either of this, buy a new one from a guaranteed dealer.
I am suggesting you to try with sparkhid. They have wide variety of guaranteed products with reasonably low price than local dealers.
