Acceleration Improvement
Acceleration Improvement
Besides advancing the ignition timing, what upgrades have proven to sped up the 0-60 time? I've seen a lot of different suggestions and thought it might deserve its own thread.
0 to 60 time? not a lot helps there cause this car is so heavy. most of my performance mods ive noticed from 40-100. from what i understand a bunch of bolt-ons + a tune is the only way to net some real low end power
bolt-ons are any performance modification that you can literally bolt right on, like an intake, y pipe, or exhaust or things like that. most of these upgrades open up the pipes which in turn increases the air flow. unfortunately because of the stock ECU the car dumps in more fuel to compensate for the increased air and in addition isn't using the parts as effectively as it could.
a tune is a ECU (car computer) reprogram that tells the car how to effectively use the parts you put on. after talking to many people on here it seems like very few mods help the low end and most mods seem to shift the power band to the higher RPM's and speeds. a tune however would help the car all-around and we've had a few guys with UpRev tunes confirm this.
my upgrade list is long so I'll keep it to just performance related: custom ceramic-coated CAI, CXJ intake manifold/throttle body spacers, CXJ block off plates, Racingline Y-pipe, Borla cat-back exhaust, and a +2 timing advance. ifuxwituz paved the way for headers on the 7th gen so ima try a diff route and look at some HFC's and maybe an electronic exhaust cutout and then go for my UpRev tune and pull it all together.

anyone with an Uprev Cypher can do it (usb laptop tool) or a Nissan dealership can using their Consult II or III
if you cant find a place UpRev has a mail in tune where you send them a datalog from ur ECU they process it send your tune back and you apply it. granted a dyno tune will net you a few more horses and the best efficiency but you can definitely still do it yourself with a laptop

I had my timing advanced the other day and that seemed to bump up the low to mid a reasonable amount. It cost me $55 after arguing with the serice advisor about if it was "possible." One of the techs told me he did it.
You're only gonna get so much acceleration with the limiting factor being the CVT transmission. If it was an old school auto trans it could be built to bark the tires with every gear shift, but unfortunately that's not the case here.
Been considering drop-in filter vs "cold" air filter upgrade. I did the drop-in not the latter and so far has notice a much lighter pedal. The car feels lighter off the mark. Makes me wonder if the "cold" air would done more. Wanna get some exhaust but I am not sure what gets taken off the car to do this. I need to do an inspection first.
To Ghozt, how many miles you got. I'm not sure if you are aware, but I think changing a cat is illegal until you reach the 50k mark.
I read that off the randomtechnology website. They make some good universal HFCs.
My plan is to first reach 50k, then reach out to RandomTechnology, Berk, and AAM to see if they can make a direct bolt on for our gen maxima.

Interesting, I had heard that if the car was prior to 1996 it was against federal law to replace a working cat converter, if it's after 1996 it was illegal to do it if the vehicle warranty was still in effect. I'm at 38k miles right now.
We have someone already reaching out to Berk asking about the HFC's. Curious about the legality of it though, interesting point

Having had two 7th Gen..I do suspect the torque control is primarily a function of the CVT programming. It certainly feels as though the transmission is holding a numerically lower "ratio" than the optimum for acceleration... under 30-35 mph and under hard throttle. It finally seems to catch up about 35 mph and then it goes. I doubt the tuners have been able to crack this one yet. It should light up the tires with the available ratios possible... but doesn't, so that is why the transmission programming is suspect.
