2006 Owner looking to upgrade
Currently own a 2006 SE with 71xxx miles. Would love to upgrade to a 2012 but not sure I can justify the cost of a new one. Looking at a VW CC V6 which is about the same price range as the Maximas I've been looking at. For the owners of 7TH gen models, what is the CVT transmission like to drive daily? I've heard horror stories about them and their reliability. Do you get the full effect of the 290HP with that type of transmission?
My current car is starting to rust and I'd like to replace it before it gets worse and affects the resale value. Have you found that dealers will allow potential customer to take the car for a full day to really get the feel of the car?
I don't put a ton of miles on my cars so I'd be looking at lease options. Thanks very much for any feedback.

hey,
-i was weary of the CVT when i first was looking into my Maxima, but when i first got into one and drove it and found how smooth it was, i was hooked! To tell you the truth it got a bit of getting used to coming from a QX4 suv feeling the shift each time. But in the Max, you can speed up and it feels like you can accelerate to no end and don't feel a single shift or slow down.
-not sure in your area but in my area only the domestics usually offer the 24hr test drive, don't know why, but it would be helpful to have that option for sure..
hope it helps and good luck!

I honestly would hold out to see what the 2013 Altima offers. It may end up being a better value than the Maxima.
As far as the CVT, they are as reliable if not more reliable than standard automatics. There have been plenty of horror stories about conventional automatics just the same as with CVT's. With 45,000 mi on the clock with some very aggressive/abusive driving, the CVT has held up fine. Power delivery is smooth and predictable. The CVT doesn't rob any hp, either. You can certainly feel all 290hp, i.e. It does take getting use to. This is the first auto I have owned. My past 4 vehicles have been manual. I would have gotten the Maxima in a manual if it was offered. However, the CVT keeps me happy. It is more smooth than a conventional auto and has the connected feeling of a manual. It's a win-win in my book.
