Wanted 2012 Maxima S

Ok here's my situation. Bought a 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD in Nov. 2009. Car is loaded with Tech Package & 18" wheels. Car's MSRP was like $43,150. Paid like $40,150. Car currently has 22,000 miles and is in immaculate condition inside and out. Added tints plus rear roof spoiler and had the front beak color matched and front clear bra. See attached link.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/384870...tl#38487074009

So wife does NOT like the car at all. She wants to go back to a Maxima. She does not want leather interior. So I was thinking of getting the Maxima S with the Limited Edition Package. I went to the dealer and see the MSRP on the Maxima is $34,000.
According to Edmunds, the TL is Dealer Retail $35,346 and Certified $37,518. I also see dealers selling similar TL's from $32,922-$34,995. So what I want to do is go into the dealer and basically make an even swap. Give them the TL and take the Maxima S even stevens.
Want to hear everyone's thoughts, suggestions, opinions, etc. Thanks in advance for everyone's input.

Sell your TL and give someone a deal at 29k and go buy an S for that. Don't know if dealers will trade even. I know some would sell the S for 29k if you can sell your car.

We agree with your wife, leather seats are hot and slippery... thus we have had a 2009 and 2011 S.

OP, if the TL is payed off then there is a chance that you can what your looking to do but those chances are very slim... i will tell you my experience when i went to trade my in, I got low balled like a mthrfkr. I honestly wanted to punch the dude in the face and kept refering the car as a honda (yes I know its made by it) but he was was trying to down play the car itself. Point to this is that since its not a nissan your more liable to get low balled then actually taking it to an acura dealer.

It all depends on the dealership you work with..... I've got a great working relationship with my dealership and I can always expect a straight line answer from them. No Fuss, No Haggle, just straight forward and to the point.

Dont expect to get what Edmunds has dealers do not use that for point of reference and Edmunds is always more than the blackbook that they use, and to what you said that they are selling them from 32 to 35K is. Expect much less for trade as his profit etc etc is built in that 32 to 35k, I would take it to Carmax or try to sell it privately before I did a trade. I really have not seen alot of those Limited Editions roaming around in the DFW area.

sometimes edmunds and kbb has the bid ask price wrong in the used car market, in fact they have it wrong most of the time.

I sold a older lexus for valuation based on kbb and it turns out the street price was much higher. I got ripped off from a lame valuation expert.

anyways, it's hard to imagine your wife not like the fully loaded TL.

you mind as well save some money and get a used 2009 S maxima, it's basically the same car.

Good feedback guys. Kinda what I expected to hear. Probably should try to sell it on my own. Never thought of going to Carmax. That might be worth a try as we have one very close by.
Either way, I know it not going to be a win win for me. If I knew she wasn't going to like the car, I would have taken it instead of buying myself a new 4Runner.

Ok well over the weekend I took the TL to Carmax and they checked it out. Everything checked out of and with 22,500 miles they couldn't believe I wanted to get rid of the car.
I went on their computors looking at other TL's they had for sale with AWD which were very few as most of them were FWD. Depending on the mileage, thye reanged from $32,000 - $35,000. Well after an hour of them trying to sell me one of their cars they came up with an offer of $28,000. Which they thought was a great offer.
So at this point the hunt goes on. I will try the dealer next and see what they say. I'll also try throwing a for sale sign in the car and maybe list it and see what offers I get.

Ok guys this is the car I currently have and the one Car Max wanted to give me $28,000 for and then this is a Maxima I found nearby. Negotiate a deal for me. Come up with some numbers as to what I can get for mine and what i should pay for the Max. This should be interesting. And thanks in advance guys for your input.

I work at a dealer. Even swaps are unheard of. You gotta remember, we have mouths to feed and lights to keep on.

you want to see what a car is really worth? go here

http://tradein.autotrader.com/atpage...4-76c4449db980

That tells you exaclty what the lowest you should be getting, meaning if the dealer takes your car in, auto trader will cut them a check for that amount. Now if the dealer really wants your business, they will give you more but dont expect KBB at dealers (most of them)

closing your sunroof, having tinted windows, and using a windshield sunshade can do worlds for keeping your leather seats from getting "hot".

you'll end up better financially if you sell the first car then work a deal on the second. trading in seems to be for convenience only

You want a 2012 Limited Edition.... I personally wouldn't settle until you get what you want.

PM sent to you as well.

Ok just purchased our 3rd Maxima. Did not go for the used 2011 Maxima cause the wife didn't like it. Went and test drove the 2012 Maxima S with Limited Edition Package and wife just could not deal with not having Navigation or Homelink.
She drove a SV with the Premium Package and Technology Package and loved how the car drove and found the leather seats to be much more comfortable than the TL. So then we talked money.

MSRP = $40,975
Rebates = $2,500
Negotiations ???
$33,900 + Tax + Fees
Total $35,100

Acura TL Trade-n = $28,500

I think I did ok even though I ended up buying almost a top of the line Maxima.

What you guys think?

I am so pumped to be back in a Maxima. Let the modding begin!!!!

Forgot to mention they are adding a rear spoiler on the car color matched and I told them to remove the rear deck light so when I get the windows tinted they won't have to cut around it. No extra charge.

Most quality tint shops will remove the window brake light and tint all the way down.

Low trade in values, for that reason I never trade in a car. Always private sale. If you would have sold it privatley you would have removed that part out of the negotiations and got a lower price on the Maxima. Bet you could of sold TL and bought Max at close to the same price.

Ya I know it was just for convenience. Although the used car place and CarMax were only going to give me $28,000 for the TL rather than the $28,500 that the Nissan dealer offered. And I got like $7,000 off the MSRP before the tax & fees.
That Maxima actually has more options than the TL did. The only thing missing is the AWD.

Should be picking up the car Thursday or Friday this week. Having spoiler added and painted and removing 3rd light for me as well so I can have the entire back window tinted.
Have already ordered a black rear roof spoiler to match the black panoramic roof and
Lamin-x film for the fog lights.

Plans are to get the windows tinted. Probably going to go with the 40% as I did with the TL because of the black interior and the black roof. Also will be getting clear bra added as well. I'll keep you guys posted and will post pictures with my additions.

Thanks again guys for all the input.

Picked up the new Max on Thursday. Wife loves the car. Seats much more comfortable. Nice soft leather seating compared to the TL.

Yup. This is what I posted on the Zine site:
************************************************** ********
Goodbye Acura, hello Nissan
Yes sad but true. Wife's bad back could not deal with the uncomfortable seats in the TL any longer. Traded it in for a loaded 2012 Maxima SV.

Premium/Tech. Package
Winter Frost/Premium Charcoal Leather
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/399188...-nissan-maxima

Not my choice but you know what they say happy wife......................

Ok have only driven the car a couple of times and have only had it for 2 days. Here are my observations so far between the two cars. The Maxima feels more sporty than the TL and more nimble. Also looks are in the eye of the beholder so don't want to bring up that subject again.

Acura TL SH-AWD w/Tech. Package 18" wheels +
-AWD (of course)
-Love the 18" 5 spoke wheels
-Love that the keys fobs recognize driver#1 & 2 and seats adjust accordingly
-Steering wheel controls

Nissan Maxima SV w/Premium & Tech. Package +
-Heated steering wheel
-Cooled drivers seat
-Power adjustable steering wheel
-Power rear sunshade
-Soft leather seating

Acura TL SH-AWD w/Tech. Package 18" wheels -
-Uncomfortable leather seating
-Non power adjustable steering wheel
-Big/bulky size
-Styling-Front & Rear(?????????????)

Nissan Maxima SV w/Premium & Tech. Package -
-Steering wheel controls
-Key fobs do not specify driver# 1 & 2. Have to push setting# 1 or 2 when entering car
-Wheel style not as nice (IMO)

I always keep my cars for a long time so I was very disappointed when the wife said she did not like the car. Really going to miss the AWD in the winter but she can work out of the house if she wants to.
Going to definitely have to buy a set of winter wheels and tires for the Maxima.

Here are how the numbers broke down on the cars. MSRP on the Maxima was $41,000 and after rebates and lots of negotiations got the car for $34,000.
They gave me $28,500 for the TL which was $500 more than CarMax and another dealer offered me for the car. And I see that the dealer has the TL listed for $29,991. So I think I did alright under the circumstances.

So if anyone in the CT area wants an awesome used 2010 TL SH-AWD go down to Harte Nissan in Hartford,CT. and tell them Joe Spagna sent you because this is the 3rd Maxima I have bought from these guys so they know me well.
