+1 on that some pics on procedure would be great! Also is it possible to remove the patterned piece on the back? Cause that would be a pain to remove plastidip if I had to..
Thx!

I actually just did this today! Plastidipped the front grille and some trim, then painted over them and clear coated. I'm not too happy with the "brilliant gold" I tried using so I'll likely peel it off sometime this week, maybe find a gold chrome or just keep it blacked out.

Pop the hood, Remove the front panels, and release the tabs from the grille. It's straight forward once you see them (a bit of a pain to do, however).

You can remove the outer chrome off the grille. Didn't attempt to remove the chrome strips off the back panel.

kinda hard to take pics when the process has already been done...besides, good luck getting pics. There's not really much to show. The best pics you'll find are probably from that pdf file that got linked

I would not suggest trying to remove the chrome around the outside unless you're willing to snap a few of the clips. The clips that hold that trim on are extremely tight, not very large and don't bend for crap. Also, there's a lot of them, upwards of 16 if my memory servers me well. I got a couple loose and it was a royal pain and just decided to leave it as was and paint the whole thing.

These pics are old but this is how I masked and painted mine. I hope this helps.

To remove the grill, TAKE YOUR TIME. Start from right to left unclipping the top then bottom then moving on to the next row of clips. It helps to pull the grill a bit towards you so the clips won't snap back in. The center two bottom ones are a pain in the butt to remove a bit. I used a long skinny flat screw driver and it worked. Put masking tape around the outer area b/c you might scratch your paint removing the grill. Happy modding

Definitely, TAKE YOUR TIME. Getting the chrome rim off was not fun and was done slowly tab by tab (I was careful to push each tab out with just my fingers and microfiber towel - so basically all tabs on the left, top and bottom, then all the tabs on the right).

Yes, I realize it's probably pointless to black out my license plate. Yes, I realize that gold doesn't look too great on a k12 radiant silver Max (Probably better on darker tones). That's why the base layers are plastidip. I'm probably gonna remove the paint soon. I've already done so on the chrome on the trunk - the plastidip did its job and the paint job came off nicely. If I can find a nice brighter gold chrome paint, I might redo. I saw some awesome gold chrome vinyl wrapping that might be a possibility in the future too. I still want my car to look... somewhat "classy."

Jbling700, your Max looks sweet. Love the light job Kmoney did. I'd love to do that myself when I get the monies

The mesh and bars are one piece. The chrome on the bars seem to be simply chrome strips glued on there. The chrome "frame" comes off that via tabs (just as the grille came off the bumper). Just be careful if you're going to pull off the chrome frame as the tabs will break with enough force. I pushed on the tabs using a towel and gently shimmied out the tabs with a flat-head screwdriver when possible. Good luck!

oh nice i didnt know the chrome bar actually came off the grill. that would have made things a little easier. has anyone used the OEM chrome trim on the grill with a mesh like the CMod grill?
